So far nothing has gone wrong with the car.
This is a fun little car to drive. So far I've been averaging about 29-30 mpg for gas mileage, which is wonderful. I drive 30 miles one way to work every day 3/4 of that is highway driving the rest is in town driving. The car rides very smooth, very little road noise, it goes up to high way speeds quickly and easily. It has two trip meters on the car which I love since I like to keep track of both miles since I last filled up and occasionally need to keep track of distances between places for work. It also has a sensor that tells if someone larger than a child is sitting in the passenger seat, and if there is not enough weight on the seat it turns the airbag off for safety. So far I'm loving the car.
I recently purchased a '06 Aveo and have nearly 3000 miles on it in about four weeks time. So far it has exceeded my expectations entirely. Mileage: When I bought the car I said I would be happy if I realistically got 30 MPG. My best mileage was 34MPG and worst was 31 MPG. This was all types of driving, some highway, some country and quite a bit of stop-and-go traffic.
The ride and handling are decent as expected, no surprises. The only improvement would be a center arm rest, lack of one takes some getting used to.
Overall, I would rate this a terrific buy, would recommend to anyone looking for great economy and a better than expected driving experience.
I recently test drove the Aveo right after driving a Toyota Corolla. I was blown away by the Aveo. It was smoother, quieter, just as fast as the Corolla if not more so, and cost a whopping $5000 less!!
Compare the Aveo's crash test results (euroncap) with its rivals and then decide if it is worth saving that $5000 on a corolla.
I find it interesting that everyone raves over a tiny subcompact made by Daewoo in Korea. I know that it is cheap to buy, but this is merely another disposable car that will have no resale value within 3 years. Best to buy a Honda or Toyota that costs more, but retains its value. In the long run, I feel is not the deal that people think they are getting.
For a couple of grand you could get a Cobalt which is far safer, bigger, more comfortable and gets better gas mileage!
Nice thing about GM dealers is that they will deal.
Good luck trying to find a the new Civic for $15k, they all sell for around 19-20k dollars.
Everyone raves about these small Korean made cars for one reason: They're cheap. Try to buy a new Honda or Toyota for less than 15K nowadays, you'll get laughed out the door.
I don't care about resale value. I buy a car for the long run.
When it wears out then I buy a NEW car, I don't buy used cars.
Used Honda's and Toyota's are just that:USED, somebody else beat on it.
Hyundai and Kias have that amazing warranty.
The Chevy has that unique styling and a good warranty.
I want to see what the Chinese have in store for us soon!
I'm indifferent about the Cobalt vs. Aveo comparison. I drive an Aveo. Someone else in the house has a Cobalt. It's bigger, but I don't need size. It's actually NOT any safer than my SAB-equipped Aveo, and her real world mileage is less than mine by about 3mpg. It's noisier and I hate the electic power steering. The only thing she really has over my Aveo is more power, and I can live without that for now. Her payment is about $40/mo more than mine, as well.
Yes a great car, but... has anyone been having problems with their Aveo during very cold weather? I have. When it's below 25 degrees my alarm goes off repeatedly. I mean it just won't stop. It woke me up a couple of nights thinking someone was breaking in. Then the last night I called the cops maybe something is going on. The cop told me because due to cold weather alarms go off. Do you think this an Aveo problem or it happens to most cars?
Dear readers,I am student and I am really confused of what should I buy, Toyota Yaris or Aveo which is 500$ cheaper? I will use it for 4 Years, any suggestion?.plz help me.
15:53 Toyota vehicles have always had a reputation for being very reliable, much more so than the Chevrolet's.
Get online and look at at the reliability ratings given to each of these two cars at Car and Driver magazine, Road and Track magazine, or Edmunds.com.
Some people will try and tell you that you should buy the Aveo because it has a longer warranty, but if the Aveo breaks down on you, they will give you a really hard time about fixing it, and it will be a real pain. Again, look at the reliability ratings, read the review given to both cars, and you will see that the Toyota is the better choice.

Neither, actually. I own an Aveo and it has been great, but I only paid $7K for it because they were selling at the time. If you are paying anything near $10K stay away from the Aveo. The Yaris is actually overpriced for what it is. Its reliability will probably be good, but it offers nothing outstanding.
Thanks for the helpful review.
Re: Yaris vs. Aveo, Smart Money reviewed the Yaris, Versa, Aveo and Fit last December and ranked Yaris dead last.
Fit was ranked 1st and Aveo just behind the Fit. http://www.smartmoney.com/autos/newcars/index.cfm?story=december2006
Ultimately, it's a personal decision, but I would advise you neither to listen to people who tell you to ONLY buy American nor people who tell you to NEVER buy American (or that Toyota and Honda are always the best -- that's biased thinking as I know several people who claim that Subaru is the best, others who rave on and on about GM, others who firmly believe that VW is the best car maker in the world...).
American cars got a bad rep the last few decades, but GM and Ford have made significant improvements over the last 5 years or so.
I own a 1996 Aveo LS, It has been a great little car for the money. Not too many complaints about the car. I still get asked from time to time what kind of car is that? The one thing that I like about the Aveo is parking it in tight places. It is so narrow, Has anyone had a problem with the airbag light staying on? And the only other thing I don't like is trying to find tires for it. I really recommend you get yokohama tires for it much better tires, also I think these Aveos really get a bad rap from the auto magazine's. I would buy another one.
I own a 2006 Chevy Aveo LS. It is a spunky little car & is worth it for the money. I think it boils down to how you drive your car & take care of it.
Toyota's are just over priced. People are racist when they judge a car by which country it came from. Aren't the Asians the world leaders in technology? The Aveos have improved over the years!!! A Toyota Corolla Sedan is R130,000 & you can get a Chevy Aveo for R85,000 with both side airbags, side impact beams, power steering, ABS brakes etc.
With the way the future is heading with fuel prices, I think the Asians are onto something with the Chevy Aveo because the fuel consumption is really low. American cars are big fuel guzzlers & not environment efficient.
I just got rid of my Aveo, it was an 06 and I bought it new. I have had nothing but problems with it. I was warned that it was a POS.
It has been in the shop for front end noise 4 times. I complained to GM and they could not fix it, so gave me a 5 year 100k mile extend on the front end and the air conditioning.
The air keeps giving off a wet sock smell when you use it. They kept dumping cleaning solution down the drain of the condenser pan and it would smell like cleaning solution and bubble gum for a week, then dirty socks again.
The noise in the front end is a squeak when you go over a bump at slow speed. Then just after the warranty ran out, the key solenoid would not disengage and let the key out, and also the solenoid that disengaged the block in the shifter lever did not work at the same time. I found several threads on line that seems to indicate that this is not a rare problem. I took the console apart and found that if I jumped the wires leading to the switch in the shifter, it would release the key pin, then I took a zip tie and tied back the block on the shifter lever. I then took the POS to the Toyota dealer and took it up the tail pipe and got 5500 trade in.
I bought a 09 Corolla. The car is much tighter than the Aveo and much less road noise. I would not recommend this Daewoo to any one. The MPG was good, but after buying a GPS system the speedo was off by 5 MPH; this would show much better MPG than it was really getting.
I just got back from Myrtle Beach, it got 39 mpg there and back, not too bad, but it was more like 36 mpg.
This car is cheap, but when you factor in all the problems and how cheap it really is, I would recommend a Toyota over this POS any day of the week, and twice on Sunday.
