Alternator failed around 75000km...that was dissappointing...the dealer had 5 alternators in stock indicating that this may be an ongoing problem.
Coolant lines at rear of van needed to be replaced...these are covered under a recall and were replaced.
Strut that holds trunk lid open failed and the trunk slammed on my head, knocking me to the ground...also under recall...I can see why...my head still hurts!
Damn spare tire was needed twice and both times it was rusted in place under the van... what a pain to get it out of there... I finally just cut the "lowering cable" and I store the tire in the back of the van...
Throttle housing was replaced by the dealer...it was a recall item.
I love the van... it drives well and is very spacious with the fold-away rear bench seat and the removable mid seats.
I would definitely buy another one...
I agree with the reported problems, When I read this review I thought this sounds like my MPV. I don't think I would buy another one however.
Our 2000 Mazda MPV is a wonderful van. It's too bad they stopped making them because we would have bought another one a few years from now.
Update to my original post... now at 135,000kms...
Van still runs great, but has developed a small oil leak. It has started to rust a little around the rear plate, and wheel fenders.
Still quite happy with the van.
I purchased a 2001 Mazda MPV in June of that year. Will not be purchasing another!
