Everything is working wonderfully on my 2002 Accord. I have owned it for one year.
For All The Comments Below, Please Read:
The SRS Side Airbag Light will come on in your car when you or someone else leans on or hits the door panel where the airbag is located. The light indicates that the side airbag is turned off, so that the airbag will not deploy in the event of a collision, injuring the passenger, who is too close to the airbag. I hope this clears things up. It's a great car and Honda is very reliable.
Oh really.. My SRS light has come on numerous times. With and without passengers in their seat. Read the owners manual. Its states if the light comes on, you could have a problem with your SAFTY RESTRAIN SYSTEM. SRS DOES NOT mean someone is in the passenger seat. IF the dealer told you this, they are yanking your chain. I have been told by two Honda dealerships and an independent ASE certified technician that my airbags may not work in the event of an accident. They do not know what to do anymore. Your right Honda does make great cars; however, they do have lemons, like ever manufacturer, but they do not fess up to their mistakes, while putting people’s lives in danger. There is also a class action law suit going on for this problem..
The previous writer is correct. The SRS light on my 2002 ACURA (HONDA) TL TYPE S comes on when I tap into the drivers door especially cornering sometimes aggressively. My kids tap into the passenger door at times also kicking on the light. As soon as I shut the car down and restart it resets. If no one is in the car such as when it is idling it never comes on. You have to tap the door as a driver or a passenger to activate the SRS triangle. The Acura, Accord are essentually the same. I do not consider this a defect or a lemon. I have owned 3 Accords, A Legend and this TL so obviously I really like these cars.
The manufacturer sent a letter last week (March 28, 2006) noting that any SRS problem would be repaired at no cost. It mentions that the cost of checking it out (if I suspected a problem) would not cost anything. I am not having a problem with the SRS indicator however.
Where can I find this letter?
I just had my side airbag light come on and flash on and off when I was on a trip this past weekend. I just bought the car, a 2001 Accord, a couple weeks ago. It only came on when the front passenger sat sideways in the seat or wasn't sitting completely straight. She was leaning on the door panel. Sounds like it might just deactivate it if it senses someone sitting in the seat awkwardly.
My 2002 Honda Accord EX V6 has the same SRS light problem. something is wrong here!!!
I bought a 2002 Accord EX two months ago, and last weekend, my SIDE AIRBAG light came on and remained On (indicating a failure in the system). I unplugged the battery, unplugged and plugged again all connections underneath the seats and the problem was fixed. However, sometimes, when somebody seats in the passenger seat, the light comes ON for one or two seconds while the car is running. I do believe there is a problem with the system and would appreciate any information on how to get it fixed free. Or I can also help to start a recall on this defect.
I purchased a 2002 Honda Accord EX Sedan about 4 months ago. My side airbag light comes on all the time. When I spoke to the dealer about this, he stated that this could be a problem that my cell phone is causing, that my cell phone is tripping the side airbag. The light comes on even when I just have my purse on the passenger seat, whether I am on my cell phone or not. Whats really going on here?
Funny I read through these and realize I'm not the only one with the side airbag light problem. Mine is pretty random, sometimes on steady, flashing, or nothing for 2 months then the light is back. I've had the car for a year and a half (bought it used) and my warranty is up, but I'm very happy with the car. I'm debating on just pulling the light bulb out of the dash and won't have to be annoyed with it anymore.
I have the same issue in my 2002 Accord EX. However the only times the SIDE AIRBAG light comes ON in the dash is when there is some object or person that is on the passenger seat and also leaning on the door panel. This has happened when my friend was sitting improperly and she was leaning on the door panel. (I noticed it only happens with people who weigh under 100-120 lbs. When my "heavier" friends sit and lean, the light never comes ON.) It also happened when I put my windshield-sun-shade on the pass. seat. The last and most strange, was when after a light rain with the window slightly open (my mistake), the pass. door panel got slightly wet, then the light was ON for like 10 minutes, before I dried it with a blow-dryer.
The light has come ON about 5 times for a few seconds each time in one year of ownership, except when it got wet. The light disappears as soon as the passenger sits properly or you remove whatever object.
Anyway, to the person who posted the comment about the letter for the free inspection of this issue: Could you please tell everybody here how to see that letter? Thanks.
Well I have the 2002 Honda EX-V6 and it only comes on when someone is leaning in the passenger seat towards the door. Other than that it never comes on.
My 2002 honda accord has the same SRS light on issue, could someone please post the letter? I will call Honda dealer to check sometime next week.
Thanks,
I owned a 2002 Accord V6 which I bought new. I had the same problem with my SRS light that many of you describe and was told by the dealer more than once that it was going off due to the weight of any items I might be placing on the passenger seat even though the light was often on even when the passenger side was occupied by a full grown adult.
Last month I was in a serious front on collision in my Accord. The front end was completely crushed almost to the windshield. Not a single airbag was deployed. My list of injuries is extensive, but the most extreme were caused by the airbag failure.
I am angry that the safety feature I paid for did not work but I am more angry that Honda failed to do anything about it even though their own built in warning system was indicating a problem. I will never again own a Honda, but am loving my new Volvo!
All my cars have been Honda. My current is a 2002 Civic with the SRS light problem. Two years ago (still under warranty) it was "fixed", no charge. The light recently reappeared. The dealership charges $70 to do a diagnostic. Honda Canada, who I agree is arrogant, advised me to pay for the diagnostic and then they'll see what, if any, kind of assistance they can offer towards fixing the problem. Based on the large number of complaints I've seen on the web, the SRS light problem is a widespread issue that even affects the new FIT (which I think had a recall for it). Apparently, some have paid hundreds of dollars to fix this problem, only to have it return. Too bad there isn't a class action lawsuit happening in Canada. Well, Honda has just lost me as a future customer.
Same problem but my SRS light is on "ALL OF THE TIME" now. It is on non-stop be there someone in the seat or not. What am I to do?
