Drivers side electric window motor has given up. Window no longer opens.
Remote central locking has to be used quite close up to work, despite putting new batterys in the plipy thing.
The ZX TD is a seriously under rated car!
There is great value for money when you compare it to the sister 306td.
The engine is powerful enough and very economical, it pulls from 20-60mph nearly as well as my previous 1.8 petrol escort and it will cruise at 90mph happily.
The cabin has plenty of space, rear legroom is limited on my 3 door model, but you can still fit 4 in at a squeeze.
The handling is amazing considering my last car was much newer and more expensive, it goes around corners very well and rides like a much bigger car, the steering is just right, not too heavy, but not super light either.
Bumps and poor road surfaces are no problem and this car is fun to drive on a/b roads.
Visibility is also very good.
Group 10 insurance isn't great for a newer driver like my, but the ZX TD non-volcane models like the memphis or aura are only group 7, and all cars have the same TD engine.
Talking of the engine did I mention it is great? You can get it tuned for £150 which will really up your turbo boost, make the car faster and improve fuel economy too!
If you only have £500 - £1000 to buy a small run around, buy on of these!
Good review!
However, i'd just like to point out that the Aura TD is in insurance group 9. I know, because I've got one!
I agree with your comments about the car, I really like mine.
Get a cambelt change done though! (unless you know for certain that there was one done recently).
Mine has had a cambelt done recently.
The SX, Advantage and Memphis are all lower.
Either way new drivers like myself will find the non-volcane models cheaper to insure as the volcane is the 'sporty' model and so is more expensive to insure as a young person.
I know because I got a quote for a aura before buying and then had to do some smooth talking with the insurance company to get a price under 3k for the volcane! oops!
I love this car! Has to be one of the best cheap used buys out there at the moment.
£3k insurance...ouch!
I'm paying £339 for mine, but I'm 22 with 4 years NCB, so there you go!
Quite fancy a Volcane 2.0 8v if my commute goes down a lot... but until then, the td is great for me.
Got my cam belt booked for next week.
