I purchased my Impala on August 10th, 2005.
August 17th, Mileage: 59,345. Check Engine light came on. There was a problem with the evaporation system and fuel system. Cost $79 to fix.
August 22nd, Mileage: 59,668. I had to return car to shop due a horrible rattling noise on acceleration. Turns out muffler baffles were rotted. $33 for temporary fix, but muffler will need replaced soon.
December 9th, Mileage: 62,799. car taken into shop due to check for a strange clunking noise coming from the front end of the car. Turns out this is a chronic problem for the Impala. No recall from GM. I will have to deal with this problem out of pocket.
February 13th, Mileage: 64,004. car taken to shop for low coolant light. Turns out most of the coolant leaked into the engine. Intake Manifold Gasket had to be replaced. Turns out once again this is common defect on GM vehicles. $595 out of pocket for repairs.
March, my transmission is starting to slip. I don't even want to know what that is going to cost!!!
This is a beautiful car outside, but is junk on the inside. Granted, I bought the car used, but it only had 55,000 miles on it. To have this many problems this frequently is absolutely ridiculous! I have only owned the car for seven months and I have already sank $700 into it! Now my transmission is starting to slip!
Buying the Impala was the biggest mistake I ever made. I will never buy a GM vehicle again.
Did you know if your car was a rent before cause, Manny people get caught by buying a rented car... the previous driver pay per month, but don't really car about the cars, sooo I guess your car was beat up baldy. okay this car from Gm is not really a pieces of gold.. its only a intemidiate its better then a Cavalier, but not a cadillac, but its reliable mostly that's why police enforcement still buy them.
A lot GM FoMoCo and Chrysler Co. front wheel drive cars have transmission problems I have a Chevy and yea I had to replace my transmission except mine was at about 150K miles. I guess the Big Three just have trouble with that. The intake gasket thing I thought GM had that fixed, but I guess not. Before it was the intake itself then they recalled some of them (they were plastic and were replaced with aluminum ones) I'm a GM man through and through, but my next vehicle will be a Nissan, unless I come across a lot of cash and buy a CTS-V, GTO, or Vette. Notice all rear drive with LS2 V8s and cars not trucks.
It pays to check out the car's history before you buy it. Use CarFax. Talk to the previous owner. If the dealer won't give you that information, then don't buy the car, no matter how nice it looks.
