"Excellent car"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

VIN 866223 car problem with cooling the engine.

I became a proud owner of a.m. car as 2n owner. My Jag was produced 11.1.1999 and was operated in Germany until 11/2005. Now in Czech republic,

205.000 km (128.000 miles) - 2 thousand miles only driven by me - in very good condition, regularly serviced car. After 8.000 miles from the last service

(it was at 120.000 miles) full oil and water, no leaks, no mechanical vibrations, I dare say only silent tick from engine head while cold - we have nowadays about -10 Celsius (=14 F) missing after temp. rises.

I remarked strange problem - during pleasant driving to the flat gradient, in 30 - 55 mph, at 1300-1800RPM, in automatic mode (no limiting the gear by left side of J gate) the temperature of engine raised to the red field. After approximately 1 minute with corresponding change of driving mode (both acceleration, higher rpm and move to the left side of J gate for gear 3 (of 5),

also reaching flat road or gentle grade down the temperature came down to the standard. At the 1st case I did not suppose the gradient can be the reason. But, after another 3 repetition I see it can be the source of this problem in coincidence with the style of calm riding in city without necessity to stop on crossings, or in the country.

I would appreciate very much if anyone can help me to understand the cause of this strange problem and/or to advise me probable imminent danger.

I would recommend having your thermostat looked at as I have had problems like this in the past and it happens when the thermostat is in the wrong way round!

I found out the hard way and cooked my head gasket!.

Get it checked asap!.

I don't mean to startle you, but maby you have an air lock in you're cooling system hows you're exost dose it have white smoke you may have a bad head gasket and you are lacking fluid don't always trust the system ckeck.

Thanks for comments. It was simply termostate. Now, after a year, I am more experienced owner and have spent pleasant 10 thousands miles in my lovely jag. Also problems and costs - totally rebuilt AT Mercedes.

But the car is superb.

Stan.
