"6-cylinder sports cars suck"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Nothing real horribly expensive that comes along with having a car you hate for 5 long, agonizing years.

1) Engine problem= about $300

2) Bad Belt Tensioner= about $150

3) Something that made the engine overheat, can't remember what it was though= about $150

4) Bad water pump which I still have so therefore it's $0.

5) Bad catalytic converter again which I still have= $0.

6) Several dozen bad blinker bulbs, probably because the battery overcharges for some reason= a total of about only $70 or $80 over a 5 year period.

General comments?

The reason I hate this car and have actually hated this car since I got it way back on 12/31/00 has been because it's a damn 6-cylinder rather than an 8-cylinder. Had this 1998 Camaro coupe all this time been a red Z28, then I would've loved this car way back then and to this day. I wanted an 8-cylinder from the get go.

I can't wait 'till this car becomes completely undrivable. Recently, I took it to a mechanic because it was running odd one day. After the mechanic inspected it for $30, he told me that that noise I've been hearing under the hood is the engine knocking. He said it won't be long 'till this car that I despise so much becomes undrivable by probably having the engine blow up. I can't wait 'till that happens because when it does, I'm gonna finally take it to the junkyard rather than waste $800 getting it fixed and finally get an 8-cylinder sports car, and it WILL be an 8-cylinder sports car that I want.

Sports cars shouldn't have 6-cylinder engines because they don't have that same performance that you can only get with an 8-cylinder. 6-cylinder sports cars aren't real sports cars. When it comes to performance, they suck. If you're looking for that V8 power and instead get a 6-cylinder sports car, you'll be EXTREMELY dissapointed, take it from me.

Hmmm, I suppose a Porsche 911 with a six-cylinder is going to have problems outrunning a V-8 Camaro. HA!! HA!!

If you hate sixes so much, then why did you buy it in the first place?

Try test driving next time.

And yet you made the decision to buy it, knowing it had a 6 cylinder, and it has stood up to your abuse for five years. Although you hate the car, it sounds like it's actually a good car. What a dilemma!

Well just so you know, it was your mistake buying a 6 cylinder. I have a 1998 Camaro 6 cylinder and have NO problems out running a z28. Yes I have had a lot of work done to my car, but love the performance over a v8. I have driven both and will pull up against any Stock z28 out there... Next time you should test drive before you buy.

I cannot believe someone would buy a V6 Vamaro and purposely beat it up, what a waste of a car... A Camaro V6 is obviously not a muscle car. Why would you buy it in the first place??? And why didn't you sell it to someone who would take care of it?? Like a 16 year old kid or an older lady???

Why did you buy the six cylinder in the first place. I hope you knew what you were buying before you signed a agreement. You get what you pay for!

First off there are plenty of v6s cars beatin the crap out of v8s, you should really learn your stuff before talking crap about a v6 when it comes down to it you don't deserve to drive any damn sports car.

To the comment from January 19th, 2007.

I am the one who wrote this review here about it and I am replying to your comment.

First off, I DO deserve a nice 8-cylinder sports car. I have learned my crap, so to speak years before writing my review about this car. I had it since December of 2000. I wrote my first review about it in 2005. That's learning enough, alright?

I am not saying people suck and are stupid because they bought a sports car, because that's what I think that you think, because of your strong comment to me. What I AM saying is that, I think that if they never experienced the power of an 8-cylinder sports car before that V-6 sports car, I feel bad for them, because it reminds me of the mistake of the mistake that I made back in 2000.

Am I saying I think 8-cylinder sports cars are better than 6-cylinder sports cars?, ABSOLUTELY. Besides, my 6-cylinder sports car Camaro for some God-unknown reason always got a bad 20 mpg since I got it at under 25K miles. But with good gas mileage, I am indeed saying 8-cylinder sports cars are better than 6-cylinder sports car, unless maybe you buy a $3,000 turbocharger and finally have some burnout power.

If V-6's suck compared to V-8's, then V-8's must really suck bad compared to a V-10 or V-12. Like the first comment stated, a six-cylinder Porsche 911 would eat a Z-28 for lunch.

It got 20mpg cause you abused it like an ignorant teenager. Keep your foot out of the throttle and it'll be good to you in the gas mileage department... LIKE ANY CAR. I get 30+ on the highway and about 26 city, because I know how to drive a car. Camaro V6's can slap GT's around all freaking day long if the V6'er knows what he's doing... unlike you. If you think a Z28 is big and bad, try an SS or G2 Camaro. Then you'll know what real power is.

OK people v8's are better than v6's if the brand and the type of mods are kept constant. I think a v8 Porsche would beat a v6 Porsche.

If you liked the V-8...why din;t you just buy a V-8???

I hope you at least knew what was under the hood at the time of purchase.

I have a 1996 dodge intrepid with a 3.5l v6 that I beat several v8's with. heres the list, 2002 ford mustang gt, chevy camaro z28, ford crown victoria- ex cop car. and the only mod I have is a cold air intake that I custom made myself. o and I also have 207,173 miles on the first engine and transmission. and yes it is a 4 speed automatic with the auto stick feature. go v6's!! I also have a friend that has a 97 chevy camaro rally sport that has beaten a pontiac firebird firehawk edition.

To tell the truth any engine, any number of cylinders can produce big HP, just depends on the size of your wallet and limit of your skill.. check out snow mobile racing, 2-stroke 2 cylinders bumping out 300HP because of the exhaust tuning and injection..

I've had a 94 z28 and it SUKED. My 97 Riviera supercharged puts out as much power as the LT1 did stock and my engine now has 270 whp 300tq... all from the same series II V6 with a positive displacement blower...

3.8s are awesome engines and very responsive to mods.. V8s in the end are a little better and cheaper for speed parts, which makes them more popular thus driving the price on parts lower... Oh, Datsuns..300zxs and fairlady 350zs... Supras... 3000gts and Stealths... Porsche 911s... all just a few of the many v6 or I6 sports cars tearing it up out there.

My personal favorite is the fastest American production car of the 80's...the Buick Grand National.. in the HP anemic 80s the stock turbo V6 was doing 13s in the 1/4 mile.. V6s suck? You just don't know how to work on a car.. anyone can buy a fast V8.. I take pride in my fast V6 because I did the work to make it quick.

It's so aggravating to hear people complain about things like this. The 3800 series II has more than enough power for getting around town and the really sad thing is if you spent maybe 2000 dollars on modifying your car you could've had it to the point where you wouldn't know its not a Z28.

Just swapping out the gears would make it feel like a whole new car...

But then again if your engine is knocking and you refuse to even try to fix it then you don't know what your doing.
