"All pontiacs are lemons"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Rack and pinion has went out 3 times. power steering pump has went out 1 time. right cv halfshaft has went out once.

General comments?

Cheaply made car that they charge a arm and a leg for. no more pontiacs for me.

I am truly sorry about the problems you are having with your car. We bought a 96 Grand Prix and it has been problem free for 20,000 miles. Not all Pontiac's are junk!By the way it the 3.1 and auto trans.

I own a 2000 Grand Prix GT. I took it to the garage last week and the mechanic asked what was wrong. I told him to take out the motor and transmission and throw the rest away :). My power steering is gone, my ABS is gone, my heater is gone, my Wiper park is gone, my rear speakers are gone, my information centre is gone...

And that's just this week. I agree with the statement a powerful lovely lemon. I don't know if I'd buy a ticket on one... afraid I'd win.

That's funny... I have a 2000 Grand Prix GT Sedan. I have had it since day one and now have 112,000 miles on it (I travel a lot and get about 25-27 MPG on average). Other than the normal wear and tear (tires, brakes, etc), I have not had one problem with it. I took it to a free maintenance check at my dealer a few months ago, and they couldn't believe the great shape that it was in for the high mileage that it had. All they said that needed, was to have the tired rotated. I take very good care with it and have the oil changed every 3000-5000 miles. I have been rear-ended twice, both under 20 MPH, and had no damage to the rear bumper at all, except for a minor scratch from the other car's licence plate screws. I guess I was lucky and bought one of the "good" ones.

We have a 2000 GT 4 door that we bought used with about 65,000k on it. Now it's up to about 150,000k. It drives great, gets about 34 mpg (Canadian gallons) and has never really been in the shop. We had 2 Cutlass Supreme S models before the Grand Prix and all were very reliable and spent little or no time in the shop.

My neighbor and mother in law both have new Buick Le Sabres, and myself and the kids find there is more front and rear leg room in the Grand Prix, and while the ride in the Buick may be a bit smoother, I like the firmer ride and handling of the Grand Prix a lot more.

I have always liked the look of the Grand Prix more than the Cutlass, as they seem quite a bit sportier if you get the GT or GTP models.

I test drove a 2003 GTP for a couple days and loved the performance, but found the seats a lot harder and not nearly as comfortable as the ones in our GT. Also, I would not expect the GTP to get quite as good a mileage as the GT.

I would not hesitate to buy another GT in the future, and would probably have a hard time convincing my wife to buy anything else. I have tried to get her to at least test drive some Camrys, Accords, Subarus and a few others and she won't even get into the cars.

Also, because we live 2 hours from the nearest big city, buying anything, but a GM can be a bummer, as we have a GM dealership only 30 miles away.

I have a 2000 Grand Prix GT.

2nd owner, bought it in 2001 with 65000K on it.

Many problems, but I'm fortunate that I can fix most of them myself.

Heater controls: speeds 1, 2, and 3 went out. Had to replace a resistor under passenger seat that cost about $80. Very common problem with GM cars.

Ignition key: I turn off my car and sometimes have to wait several minutes before I can get the key out. Up until now I have lived with this problem, but will look to replace the ignition switch soon.

Amazing engine: my hat goes off to GM on this. One thing they do get right is build good engines; everything else is questionable.

My car now has 165,000K and my transmission is giving me serious problems. This will be a very costly repair. I'm very disappointed over this. I'm currently looking at Dodge Caravans, but have read many reviews where people have had transmission problems under 200,000K; that has me concerned.

For the most part the Grand Prix has been a good car. With the exception of the common defective parts (resistor, ignition) and now my transmission, the 2000 Grand Prix has been a good car. I might make the jump to imported vehicles; they seem to be better built vehicles.

We have a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix with 47,000 miles (we don't dare drive it very far away from home). The CD player stopped working just outside of the warranty period. Recently, we were losing cooling fluid only to find out that the intake manifold gasket was leaking (1300.00) to repair. Then, the drivers side window stuck in the down position on a cold winters night (window regulator which cost 350.00). No, I will never purchase another Pontiac.

I purchased my GP GT when it was almost 4 years old and had 90,000k on it. My Grand Prix GT was fine for the first 2 years other than the heater speeds 1,2, and 3 going out and having to spend $300 to have that repaired. And the heat doesn't put out despite new thermostat, flush, and plenty of complaining. Can't get any wiper blades to work on the long windshield and this is Canada - it's an important thing. The steering is going now and I've also had the constant problem of the passenger window motor giving up only a couple months after I got it. One of the mufflers fell off last month after I hit a chunk of ice, but thankfully that only cost $30 to put back on. I'm impressed with the engine, but I agree with pretty much everyone else when they say that's the only good thing. It's cheap junk otherwise and I wish I never bought it. Plus I got a bad deal so I'm bitter. I bought American because they're cheaper to fix, but I'm not thinking that will be the case anymore considering the shear volume of problems here and there.

I drive my 2000 Grand Prix very hard. it has 165 000k on it and it never lets me down. I service it properly. if my foot is not on the floor its because there is a cop around or I'm at a red light. love it.

I bought a '94 Grand Prix back in September. I am the 2nd owner. When I got it the owner said it was in pretty good shape. It ran good (except one of my mufflers was going bad) for about a month. After that everything went downhill. The tip from my muffler fell off and that was fine, because it just made it louder. Then my muffler fell off so I had to get that fixed.

After that my brakes went out, windshield washer fluid doesn't work, had to get a new battery, wires were loose and made my car break down whenever it felt like and the headlights to flash. About a week ago I brought my car to the shop AGAIN and turns out it needs a new starter, and I guarantee that after I get it back today it will be back in the shop tomorrow because of new problems. Oh... and the service engine soon light is on.

3 of my friends own 2000 and 2001 Grand Prixs. 2 of them have ignition problems, and can't take the key out half the times. The 3rd one said the only problem she had was some messed up wires. All 3 have service engine soon lights on, and 2 have clunky noises. yea... if you can't tell, I DO NOT like Grand Prixs. I will NEVER buy another one! I'm actually doing a persuasive speech in my speech class on to NEVER buy a Pontiac...

I have a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GT 3.8L.

I bought it used (22K miles) and now have 100K miles on it.

I have had to put a lot of money into it the past few months (around $4K).

Everything seems to be going at once.

I am the only driver and am not hard on my vehicle. I do routine maintenance as well.

This is the first Pontiac I've ever owned. Although I love the comfort I am not sure about it's reliability.

Hope others have had better luck.

J.

I have a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix and I have owned it for a little over a year. The car itself is very comfortable although I have had problems with it. When I brought the car the 1,2, and 3 did not work on the thermostat system. Sinc ethen I have had 2 axel replacements, a radiator bust and now it is a problem and my service engine light is on. As far as to say whether it is a good or bad car, I don't know because overall I love my car despite the work I have put despite my problems. I love the engine and the take off of my Grand Prix.

I bought my 2000 Grand Prix GT new and I love it. I have almost 90,000 miles. The only problem I am having with my Grand Prix is the speakers, but I think my kids might have blown them, you know how teenagers are. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. I have had my drivers side window motor go out, but what car hasn't. Other than that my car has been great.

I purchased my 2000 Grand Prix in September 2006 with 71000 on. About 3-weeks after I had it I noticed a unusual burning like irritation in my eyes every so often and a metallic taste in my mouth. I took the car back to the dealership and after 3 different inpections they found out that the lower intake was leaking. It's a good thing I purchased an extened warranty and this was covered. Since then everthing has been fine up until about a month and a half ago. I started having the same symtoms with my eyes and now very bad headaches to the point I feel like I have a migrane from the top my head all the way to my finger tips. I took it back to Pontiac and now the upper intake was leaking. So now this april and the car now has about 87000 miles on it. Pontiac repaired upper intake under warranty, but I still have the same problem and no one can seem to find anything else wrong with this car after countless inspections at other auto mechanic shops. I even made a doctors appointment to get a check up to make sure I am OK because this is a very unusal issue that I am experiencing. Over all I like the vehicle, it handles well, has a great body and has been very dependable through the cold months that we experienced this past winter. I need to get rid of this problem. If anybody has or had this problem please let me know what you did to fix it.

2000 Grand Prix GT -

As soon as I hit 90K I've been having problems left and right. The rack and pinion problem I'm having now is nothing new to the people on this board, but having to have my steering column taken apart to replace a computer card that controlled the brake lights was something I won't soon forget. Could GM have found a more awkward spot for a computer card? And of course it was 400 bucks to replace. I'm hoping this is all just 100,000 mile blues right now.
