Almost nothing has gone wrong with this car in over 7 years of daily use; a new battery, tires etc.
The only issue has been the brake booster system, I've needed 2 accumulator balls, but then it was O.K.
Love the car comfort, speed, well designed,, constant compliments, car people love this car.
Amen! I've owned two so far. The second one I've been adding after market parts to it, I'm not scared <g>. An excellent combination of style, power, handling, ride, and even economy. It's a GM g-body, so there's lots of suspension upgrades available "finally". But most of all, after washing and waxing the black paint, the chicks dig it "it's shiny" hehehehe. Wooooooooosh!
Great Car!!!
Very few cars will give you the driving pleasure, great looks and reliability of the GN. One of the very few cars whose price has steadily increased.
Buy one.
I have owned a 1987 Buick Grand National for about 2 yrs. I bought it completely stock so I could do my own upgrades. The only faulty thing I've experienced was that it ate alternators. I replaced them three times during ownership, otherwise the car was great. Took it to the track, on road trips and cruise nights. The only "bad" thing now is lack of parts and technical knowledge. Thankfully the Internet is full of useful information. It is recommended to get involved with a Turbo Regal club in your area for parts and knowledge.
My father bought a 1984 Buick GN hot off the showroom floor. We still have it and it's as bad as ever. At about 100k miles we rebuilt the motor and made a few upgrades to the injectors and the turbo. If you can find an '84 GN make sure it has the LEAR leather interior because it's the best GN interior of all the years. If you can't find one with the LEAR interior get an '86-'87 intercooled beast and you'll have more power and a third brake light. Either way their great cars, but beware, the OEM parts are getting scarce.
I have a 78 Buick Regal and I recently installed an 86 grand national motor in it. the motor has about 50 thousand miles on it. it runs great. I love tearin up the tuners that think it's a grandpas car.
I own a 1987 Regal Turbo, since 1990 and I love it! Never any problems and it sat for 10 years (1997-2007). I did not have a garage where I lived and did not want to use it daily because of mileage and risk of accident/theft. I put it back on the road because I have a garage now, and the only thing it needed was new rubber items because of dry rot. Everything mechanical ran like the day I parked it. Even the interior held up. I did change the fluids and replaced the gas.
When I owned mine, the only problem I had was the electrical system... I went through a few alternators, but that could have been because of the unit itself. Other than that keep up the maintenance, let the car "cool down" after med - heavy use and you should be good!
