1980 Datsun 280ZX from North America - Comments

"One of a kind!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

I've had my 280zx for almost a year now with very few problems. The heater fan switch and the AC hasn't worked since I bought it.

A few squeaks & rattles here and there.

My only complaint with this 280 is probably the wind noise. I'm not sure sure if maybe my seals need to be replaced or if its just the way these sports cars were made (little insulation) compared to newer car which are virtually silent inside.

General comments?

This car can corner. It handles great on back country roads. It still has the original shocks and all that need to replace so BE PREPARED FOR A BUMPY RIDE!!!

Today I saw the 2nd 280zx on the road in about a year. The first one was broken down ;( the second one was running, but not in the greatest condition. These cars are definitely becoming extinct.

Update. My Z is still running strong thinking about making it my everyday commuter car. Charged the AC now seems to be working OK. Last trip made was about 70 miles all highway. This car runs as well as anything on the road. Would like to do some upgrades eventually as I haven't really changed any of its original parts.

I have a 1979 280 zx that I have done some re-wiring and replaced the brakes on and just took it on a 600 mile round trip non-stop (except for gas) and she ran like a champ! I've had it pegged out at the 140mph mark and still had tons of pedal left! I love this car! I've been a Datsun fan since I was a kid. The first truck I owned was a 79 Datsun 620 and I also had a 79 Datsun B210, all ran beyond the call of duty!

My 1979 280ZX 2x2 was absolutely the best car I've ever had, and beautiful with metallic blue paint and blue velor interior, I called her "Little Girl." So darn dependable. The first car I've ever driven that got 2nd and 3rd gear scratch without even trying.

Yes, the corners to look forward to, a little water puddle in the road to play in. I'll never own anything else.

But alas, rust and a lady changing lanes totaled her. But after my mourning period was over, I now own a 80 280ZX 2 seater, black, gold pin striping, and tan interior 130,000 original miles. I call her "BB" because she is black and beautiful.

Her body is not as long and elegant, but I'm learning to love her differences. I LOVE THE Z CARS.
