2001 Ford Taurus SES from North America - Comments

"The 2001 taurus ses in 2 words= hunk of junk!- no offense"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Engine sensor- wouldn't replace under my warranty supposedly wasn't covered about a month or so after I just bought this car!, flaking paint (was fine when purchased, but now flaking & bubling/rusting inside doors), clicking in the front wheel base, poor engine power with the vulcan (slow acceleration) personally I should've got a SEL, or SHO with the duratec or 32 valve v8 instead, but that's just my own opinion!

General comments?

This car the 2001 ford taurus ses I bought this past fall, is definatly not worth the money I paid for it even though I only paid $6800 for it! even though it's only 4 yrs old when I bought it last year in august with only 66000 miles on it! I previously had then owned a 1996 taurus LX in which I got from my dad for graduation and had for 3 yrs loved that car, then just traded it in for this 2001 piece of crap only because the '96 had over 108000 miles on it and wanted something a little newer boy was I wrong!, but my '96 never rusted anywhere or really gave me any major problems- technically my opinion is that car was built better physically and mechanically I believe that's all I'm gonna say!

Just curious what your warranty is and if it is a "certified" vehicle by Ford.

Is it like the foreign makes, 6 years/100K miles?

Your description of rust and paint flaking don’t seem to fit the year and mileage. Maybe it is the result of some poor body repair?

My 2001 Taurus has been through several North Dakota winters with salt on the roads and driving on poorly maintained country roads. I can't see a single spot of rust or wear. I tend to agree that any paint chipping or bubbling probably has some cause other than normal wear and tear.

I too have a 2001 Taurus that I purchased new. I have also experienced the paint bubbling up and rust on the rear quarter panel adjacent to the back door. This car has never been wrecked and only has 28,000 miles on it. I also had trouble with the rear coil springs breaking at 23,000 miles. Based on all the recalls and other trouble I have had with this car, this will be the last Ford product (and I have owned many) that I will ever purchase.

I too have had many problems with my 01 Taurus. I have replaced the entire steering column. The grinding noise from the front end drives me crazy. The low coolant light comes on and goes off for no reason. When you have the parking brake engaged, but then attempt to drive the light will come on, but it doesn't make any sounds. Also, it is positioned so that it is hard to see it because the steering wheel gets in the way. I think a lot of Ford's financial problems are in direct correlation to the quality of their products.
