":-P"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Had to replace radiator.

Had to replace water pump.

Bought car (unknowingly) with a blown head gasket.

Heater core is going out.

Tranny slips.

Had to replace ball joints.

Had to replace EGR valve.

Sealing is bad.

Had to replace motor.

General comments?

Honestly this car is OK and handles great, but I would recommend buying a BRAND SPANKING NEW ONE if you are ever going to buy a Taurus.

I have been told by many mechanics that Tauruses are just overall crappy cars and that they are a pain to work on.

I have had several problems with the car which were hard to diagnose.

Sounds like you picked up someones unmaintained vehical. If you don't flush your coolant, it will take out your water pump and possibly your radiator... when you have lack of cooling your head gaskets are going to go. It is very rare to have headgaskets go on the 3.0 OHV (vulcan) engines. They must be overheated or run with very contaminated coolant to fail.

EGR valve is a common repair, however its not only a ford thing. Toyota, Honda, Dodge's will need one down the road as well...

Tranny slips... The transmission's fluid is probably original... supposed to change it ever 30-40k.

Ball joints, these will go ever 120k or so if you take corners real hard and live in an area with lots of potholes.

What was the mileage of your car?
