This vehicle has been an electrical nightmare. My turning signals circuit had to be replaced, my battery has died while driving due to a malfunction in the ground wire, and the check engine light has lit up repeatedly for no reason.
I love the performance and ride, but these things make me question the reliability of the car. I don't have complete trust in the car now.
I must admit, I was at one point considering adding a late model S70 to my Volvo lineup at home (a '87 740GLE and a '91 240), but after seeing the continuous complaints about not only the 70, but the 80 and 40 (and probably 60 soon), I'm sticking with my old Volvos. The 740 has 235,000 miles on it and the 240 has 175,000 miles and neither have *ever* had the kinds of problems that these new Volvos are having, and we've owned them since new. As a matter of fact, the 240 has not been in the shop for almost 4 years (except I needed a new windshield, which the dealer gypped me on). The 740 just got a second transmission. You'd think Volvo would have straightened out these electrical gremlins as they didn't exist on the older Volvos even though they had ABS and airbags too (at least the '91 240 did).
