"High performance jet!!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Nothing has gone wrong with the car.

General comments?

Well, this is my first car, I'm 19 years old and it cost me a lot to insure!!! But I think it was worth it. The 160 BHP DOHC VTEC VTI engine really is excellent - no wonder everyone is copying the VTEC engine.

I have had this car for about 9 months, done 15,000 miles in it and enjoyed every inch of it. It's a thrill to drive, it's very very very nippy in low revs but absolutely breathtaking once you take it to about 5000. It redlines between 8000rpm and 9000rpm.

Excellent car, no problems at all. I'm thinking of selling this car and buying a Prelude VTEC 2.2 because I'm in love with the VTEC engine. I have had a lot of races in this car and I can honestly say I have never lost. The handling is great too.

The only thing I could say (almost 25 years old and my second car!!!) is that the VTEC is a wonderful machine and I've never lost a race too!!!!!

Once the engine comes near to 5,500 rpm the beast is free and come out of its cage!!

In one word: WONDERFUL!!!!!

For the extra money, is it worth getting the Type-R over the VTi??

My VTI is a wolf in sheep's clothing!

Up to 5000RPM it is a standard saloon.

Put your foot hard down and you feel the G force up to 130 MPH as the rev counter smoothly advances to 8000RPM.

This model is two cars in one model!

I wouldn't bother with a Type-R... damm fine cars but with the VTi they don't see you coming... and though the Type-R is faster you wouldn't notice it as they both rev and feel very quick.

I owned a 1.6 VTi, fell in love with it, very fast car (don't race VR6's). I've just sold it to my brother and bought a 1.8 VTi which is a lot smoother and FASTER.

Is the 1.8 really faster? Than the 1992 Vti? I thought it was slower. Anyway, I agree with all of the other comments here, I've never lost a race in mine, and I've never tried a VR6!

Does anyone notice V6 vectras can give it a run for its money up hills - then once you reach the top you're away?

Forgot to mention, I've had my 1992 Vti past 140mph on the speedo, my aim is to get it to go off the clock. Police in the UK wouldn't be best pleased with that though.

I took my 1996 VTi on the M67 in Manchester England which is on slope (the last bit has no slip roads or gantrys for police to hide on). Anyway, going uphill on the clocks 130MPH, down hill approx 150 MPH (clocks stop at 145MPH).

The only time I have lost a race was with an Impreza Turbo, I could matched him to 70, after that he pulled away. Never tried a Vectra V6 flat out, but can beat them off the line no problem.

Has anyone timed a VTi flat out using timing gear (clocks are always out). In mine I beat an Audi A4 1.8T flat out, top speed claimed 137MPH by Audi yet Honda only claim 129MPH in the UK.

Nice motor the 1.6 DOHC vtec - I have a 96 model, and I can honestly say it's the best car I have ever owned. I used to have a mk2 Golf GTi - no comparison, the VTi wins hands down! I have raced a mk2 Golf Rallye in my VTi and totally wasted it.

To the guy above: You are ignorant. Civics and VTEC motors are excellent. The are cheap, reliable, and a lot of fun. Sure, other manufacturers may offer vehicles that are superior in one or two of these areas. But Honda provides a fabulous all 'round car. An RX7 requires a motor replacement at 100K. A 15 year-old 911 still costs $40,000. Get the point that these people are trying to make?

This September I go to Univeristy, studying to be an occupational therapist. I promised myself that when I graduate I will be buying a Civic (vtec engine). It seems that everyone is happy with their cars, but then they are Japanese renowned for reliability. I have a Micra 95 currently and just can't wait to upgrade to a car in a whole new different category. How much would you say is advisable to spend on a decent Civic?

Keep up with a subaru I don't think so or if you did it wasnt one of the fast ones like the sti or wrx. they are good cars for a 1.6 0-60 in the low sevens, but its not as fast as your making out with all this never lost a race rubbish. start racing some real hot hatches like the astra vxr new focus st old focus rs golf r32 bmw 130i and then you will realise its only a warm hatch.

The civic vti would eat any 1.6 for breakfast, the focus and vxr are in a different league.

Actually it wouldn't "eat any 1.6 for breakfast" the new corsa vxr 1.6 190bhp would eat the silly civic. plus the saxo vts has a 0-60 time of 7.2 check www.whatcar.co.uk if you don't believe me so it wouldn't be "eating" that either.
