"Buy a Toyota Tacoma"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Currently the engine is complaining about mixture being too lean P0171 engine code. Dealer cannot fix it. does anybody know if the intake manifold maybe leaking air? I've had all the gaskets replaced at the dealer but same fault.

General comments?

I have a Mazda 1997 B4000 which I bought brand new, and baby'd it like crazy. This truck has very poor reliability as there is always something wrong.

For example:

Engine will not start occasionally

constant check engine codes

very rough transmission shifts (5 speed auto)

wondering idle

faulty thermostat.

I have a 1997 B4000 2X4 and the quality is very poor. I've babied this truck since new and it's nothing, but problems such as:

Constant check engine.

wondering idle.

poor auto transmission shifts.

will not start.

constant P0171 error which nobody knows how to fix including the dealer and the Ford guys as well.

I will buy a Tacoma next time.

A running lean code is either too much air, vacumn leak, or not enough fuel.

You may want to check your O2 sensor. This is a common problem I have heard from countless people. Well I could probably count em, but I am to lazy.

You may want to check your O2 sensor. This is a common problem I have heard from countless people. Well I could probably count em, but I am to lazy. The O2 sensor is what puts more or less air into your fuel. Being to lean or to rich. Could also cause more problems in the long run.

Sorry about your experience. I also have a '97 B4000 and it's been extremely reliable. In Sept. '07 was the first time I had ANY mechanical issues. A line to the condenser began leaking and had to be replaced. And right now, I've got a thermostat that has stuck open.

But, since I've owned the truck since new, that's not bad for a 10 year old truck. I wish my wife's BMW was as reliable.
