1999 Jeep Wrangler Inline 6 from North America - Comments

"Awesome vehicle and very fun to drive"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The problem I am having is. When I am on the freeway going from 60 to 70 miles an hour I lose all power in the motor and have to pull over and take off from a dead start. The dealer says the Jeep is in perfect condition and that there is nothing wrong with it. I have only had it for 2 weeks and I love it exept for the losing power on the freeway, lol. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. One more question I put 31s on it and only get 12 miles to a gallon, also just had a tune up done. Thanx.

General comments?

I love my new Jeep exept that one problem, awesome power with the inline 6. Just not that much power in 5th gear.

Sorry buddy, jeeps get terrible mileage either way, especially with upgraded tires. I threw on some 30" BF Goodrich all terrains and I get 12mpg (city) on a "aggressive week" and 15 on relatively peaceful week. Power at higher speeds is virtually non existent, I just have to gear down if I need any sort of power (from 5th to 3rd), 4th works OK, but not for passing. Ever mile per hour past 80 takes forever to go up. I've hit 100 but I really don't ever want to again, the shaking was that worrisome. But hey, that's the joy of jeeps.

I have a 1998 Jeep Wrangler with an acceleration problem. At highway speeds, it runs perfectly, but when driving in town it loses power and almost stalls. Mostly in 3rd Gear/30-40 mph. I have had the fuel pump replaced (not cheap) and the clutch was also recently replaced. A diagnostic has not provided any clues. Please help!

I have a 2.5 liter 1995 jeep wrangler and it has been having problems cutting out when I step on the gas peddle. I had the problem once before and replaced the O2 sensor and the fuel filter. It was running great for a while and not it's doing it again. Any ideas on what could be causing the problem?

I don't think these Wranglers were ever meant to do 80, much less 100! You shouldn't expect more than 65 because these aren't high-speed commuter cars. They are the absolute antithesis of highway commuting. If you want to cruise at 80, this just isn't the vehicle for you.

For the folks with engines cutting out, I notice these vehicles are 8-10 years old, presumably with nearly 100,000 miles? If replacing the fuel filter and fuel pump didn't work, I would suggest doing a thorough tune-up, changing spark plugs, distributor cap, and wires. After so many years/miles, it's time for a tune-up. Also try adding fuel injector cleaner. I have seen cars stall right in the street because they had carbon-fouled distributor caps and rotors.

I also have a 95 jeep wrangler and have had problems with the engine cutting out when I step on the accelerator. I've replace the cap and rotor, wires and plugs, fuel filter and O2 sensor, ran techron through it, got a new battery and cables, and have not yet found a solution to this problem. No indicator lights come on either so I have no clue what the problem is. I've been told it could be the crank position sensor, but I am doubting it because my jeep starts and idles like a champ. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I have a 1998 jeep wrangler with 25002 miles, and have the almost stalling problem, as you start off the jeep will do a bucking/slowdown between 10-20 MPH after barely using the gas pedal you will just get about 30 MPH and the problem just disappears after a couple of miles. My friend also has a 1998 Jeep Wrangler with the exact same problem. We think heat has to do with it and the dealer ships cannot find any problem they lead to the computer at our cost.

What will temporary fix the problem is to pour cold water over the computer... it works.

Please any buddy else with this problem???
