Fuse box/central junction box blows PCB tracks.
Engine shut off solenoid.
Alarm goes off for no apparent reason.

Performance is good for a diesel, comfort and handling are quite good.

I have an M-reg Ford escort diesel that when it rains, blows fuse number 16 that controls the fuel shut off valve. When the car dries out this problem clears until the next time. The suggestion of a fuse board problem may have some relevance to my problem?
Yes, the fuse boxes on mkV Escorts are a bit of a joke in the trade, anybody with a M plate Escort should expect their fuseboxes to start blowing within the next few months. They are hopeless, a mechanic friend of mine now does about ten of these a month! They retail for £108 (basic) from a Ford Dealership (that's if they don't suggest the only way to cure the electronics is to buy a new Maverick!). I work for Motaquip, I sell enough fuseboxes for mkV Escorts, they are just crappy. The new ones are just as bad, expect five years out of a new one!
I own a R reg lx td and after the initial culture shock of stepping down from a toyota mr 2 I am beginning to get slightly attached to it it starts every morning have done about 7000 miles so far with it and not so much as a hick up from it I find it a totally reliable little work horse more to my surprise than anyone elses it does what it says on the tin. 10/10.
