Only one thing has been problematic, which is the transmission. My car jerks when the gears are changing.
It has just started happening in the last month. I'm scared that it will give my baby whiplash in the baby seat, and very worried.
I noticed a user said they had the same problem, did it get fixed? I'm located in Oregon, is that where you bought your car from?
This car is very stylish, and comfortable. The price is great, which was a big reason for me to buy it.
The dealer has had my car twice (they still have it), and I hope they can fix it. They said it was fine when they gave it back to me the first time, but my Buick (older car) never even did this, so I'm stressed.
Can anyone give any ideas?
If your car is a manual transmission as stated in your review, the jerking could be caused by how you let out the clutch.
My car is automatic. I don't know how to drive stick shift, sorry for the confusion. Today my car is still having the intermittent problems. I never should've bought this car. It is also the 1st/last car I ever buy from ford. Now I know why people give them a bad reputation.
These Ford Fusion's are the 2005/2006 versions of the contour which everyone was giving a good review and the owners of that car know how crappy that car really was.
"These Ford Fusion's are the 2005/2006 versions of the contour". I. m glad to see people know what they are talking about on this site. God help us all, I won't evn get into explaining that one. This car is a Mazda 6 with and inch or two more in length, so if you don't like this car then you don't like Mazda, not Ford. I don't know if this review is even legitimate, but I sure know the toyota lover's making their comments aren't.
Mazda is ford if you didn't know.
***UPDATE***
My car still has the problems, and ford can't fix it, or atleast won't. My previous buick was older and much more better/smoother. I don't care if it is a mazda or a ford, it is the last car with the ford name I'll ever buy. They deserve the reputation they have.
-upset mother.
You only have one problem, and its just the transmission.
But could you at least inform us if your car is really a manual or not? Because otherwise you're giving a false representation of this car when it could be really good and you just don't know how to drive a manual.
However, I tend to think you fit in with the stereotype when it comes to cars and you just hit the gas to go and brake to stop. And if you're one of those, then I highly doubt you drive a manual. And if it's an auto tranny doing the jerking, get the fluid changed or its possibly one of the sensors. I'm not sure if it has a CVT tranny, but a CVT will not jerk like that, so most likely you have an automatic.
If you check the posts he/she says it's an auto trans. These cars are cleaply made like most cars are nowadays. My grandfather recently got a brand new fusion on a lease and with only 300 kms the auto trans gave out and the car had to be flatbedded to the dealer and the tranny replaced. No problem on a lease, but go buy the car and most dealers will tell you its your fault and try not to repair it.
I did notice that the transmission (automatic) seems like
its struggling.
Also the car wouldn't start one morning this week.
Not sure what that was about, but I haven't had time to bring it to the dealer.
Still sorry I didn't just buy a mercedes. I guess its true you get what you pay for.
Try taking it back to the dealership and have the mechanics reprogram the computer for the transmission. When you go in, just tell them what you want done and don't give them a choice as they are always looking for the fastest and easiest way to get things done. Remind them that you paid good money for a product which is under warranty and it has to meet your satisfaction. I don't think it's really fair to continue the stereotype of certain makes of cars because everything is on a global scale now. The transmission in the Fusion could very well be made by the same manufacturer for Mercedes or BMW. Good luck!
Not sure if you're still around, but take it in and have them look up TSB 06-21-11 should correct the problem.
I just test drove a 2006 Ford Fusion, and a 2007 Mazda 5. Even though the Mazda 5 doesn't have the nice looks of the Ford Fusion, I'm going to make an offer on the Mazda.
To the point. It's the difference in the transmissions. The Ford jerked when shifting. So much so, it ruined the impression of the car for me. The Mazda was smooth and clean when shifting, and had a semi automatic feature/option. The Mazda even seemed to accellerate better overall with pretty much the same 2.3 litre 4 cylinder engine.
Ford has to fix that automatic transmission in the Fusion. It's as simple as that.
Uh, hello, the same car. The Fusion is built on the same chassis. Also, take a look at the transmission failure rates on the Mazda 626. Look at the transmission failure rates on the Accord and Odyssey. You would be better off with the Fusion.
A transmission that may or may not be slipping is in NO WAY going to give a baby whiplash. Calm down and try taking it to a different dealer.
Yes, Ford automatic transmissions do not have the silky smooth and precise shifting of the excellent GM automatics. It is one of the only (very minor) complaints I have had with my latest Ford products. On the other hand, I have never had a transmission failure with any Ford product, some of which made over 300,000 miles, so I can attest to their ruggedness.
All in all I feel GM has a more driver friendly vehicle in most respects. I currently own both GM and Ford products and neither have ever had any problems, but I have to say that my 8-year-old GM compact is far smoother and quieter than my 2007 Ford.
