2005 Hyundai Santro XO from India - Comments

"Faultless in the city, barely acceptable on the highway"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Just had a blown fuse so far.

Car is otherwise fine, but the dealer has to get his act together.

General comments?

Underpowered on highways, but more than adequate in the city. Hydraulic power steering gives good feel, but electric would have been better as this car rarely ventures out of the city. Bouncy ride in the rear - hard suspensions are a big no-no in India. Brakes tend to lock up quickly, so if you buy one make sure it has ABS. There is a fair amount of body roll because of it's tall boy structure, but don't worry it won't topple over.

Cheaper to buy and run than (Maruti) Suzuki Swift and better to drive and has better equipment level than Wagon R. These two are the only serious hatchback competitors to the Santro in India. Others are either a shoe box with wheels (like TATA Indica) or over priced (Palio, Getz, etc).

Rs 4,00,000 for a car with power steering, power windows (f&r), air conditioning, rear defogger and more. Worth every rupee I paid for it.
