In another website http://www.attention-to-details.com/newslog/337-dodge-neon-problems-peeling-paint.asp all the problems they listed apply to me.
Steering replaced before I purchased car. When I owned it front struts went bad. No a/c I filled it but it ran out in a month. Oil leak. My timing belt went and that took out the valves. The timing belt was $500,00 and the cost of the valves would be $1,600 which is not worth it. Engine light is always on. There was a short in the radio. This car was well maintained. There should be a recall when every owner has the same problem. I swear to you when I got the timing belt repaired there was a 97 Neon in there with the same exact problem!
Not worth it. Do a search and see for yourself! Thousands of people have been screwed by this garbage they call a car.
I had a 98 neon highline for 3 and a half years. I had almost 140,000 miles on the clock. When I bought it, it had 30,000 miles. Between all those miles I never had a problem. It never left me stranded, it started everytime I hit the key, and I drove the crap out of this thing. I had a bunch of mods on it also. I had a full catback exhaust, iceman intake, 16 inch wheels, crane #12 cam, indy intake and a 60mm throtle body. I raced mine almost every weekend, So I don't understand why everyone is haveing all these problems.
I'll admit the neon's do have their shortcomings, but this sounds like a lack of proper maintenance by the previous owner... RESEARCH BEFORE YOU BUY.
