Car enveloped by clouds of fumes from beneath engine.
Clutch hydraulics failed one day after major service.
Hatch hinges rotted - required replacement.
Temperature gauge frequently malfunctions and incorrectly reports overheating.
Three years worth of 'limp home' mode activation on a random basis, but now permanent. Car now unusable. Dealer failed to solve the problem.
This good looking and comfortable car is ruined by totally unreliable electrical systems that even dealers seem perplexed by. Metal parts appear to rot rapidly.
The clouds of smoke are caused by the auxiliary cabin heater exhaust that is situated under the car by the front axle. It burns fuel to heat the car's interior when it's cold outside. We have a 2.2dCi and it does this too. There's no way to switch it off and it's very embarrassing when you pull up somewhere and the car is completely surrounded by diesel smoke (also worrying when my wife unloads children in the fumes).
Our rear hatch hinges haven't rotted yet, but my Dad's did on his Espace.
Ours has been in the garage loads since we have owned it. Mostly because the engine kept cutting out. More recently because the radiator decided to break and spill its contents all over the road.
We want a Toyota!
