2001 Chrysler Neon LE from North America - Comments

"The 2002 neon is not my cup of tea"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Car was purchased in november of 2005 rear suspension clunk was heard after 2 weeks of ownership.

Front suspension clunking, new strut mounts were needed

plug wires and new plugs a short time later.

Now experiencing hesitation and "bucking"

Somedays it has great power and performance

other days it needs a "pep talk" to get moving.

A/C let go 2000kms after purchase.

Wheel bearing last week.

General comments?

This car is basically the old neon with a new outer shell,

carries over a lot of the poor qualities of the older car such as noisy front ends, constant parts replacement, also just simply unrelaible.

The only thing I like is the gas mileage which I get roughly 42mpg.

Surely not worth the 7900$ I've paid for it.

Service is terrible at the dealer, its as if they are avoiding me when I go there for help.

Actually they changed over 1000 different things on the second generation Neon. The problems that you have had were not problems with the 1st. So by my guess the people who owned it before abused their Neon to death or something.

I got my 2001 neon when it had 61000 km on it and it now has 132000km and it is starting to do some of the same things, so I agree, but I can't seem to figure out what is causing the hesitation and bucking it seems to get better when the air or heat is off!

Our 2001 neon was bought upon dilevery to the dealership. We paid extra thousands to get the LE GTS edition 2.0 SOHC, with some factory tuning. For the first year we really had few problems that you could blame on the car short of the battery having to be replaced on defect and a strange rotten egg smell when the car was in reverse. The car was the talk of our town at this time, its sleek lines and booming stereo demanded attention (good and bad). But after some time it began to clunk. We took it to get looked at and I think tie rod ends were the first to be replaced as well and the Really really expensive tires were worn past there time. After this we went on with our lives really with no complaints. The neon began to chirp especially with the fan on or in reverse. over the past years its gotten worse shaking at aroun 70km/h and most anywhere above. it shakes in reverse and sometimes stalls. the front end has had so so so many replacements, but our roads are so bad. My biggest complaint is loss of acceleration. I hate the way it stumbles with the smallest touch of gass. I love this care I need this car. its so hard for me to watch it fall to pieces. But am I to blame or the car? The way I baby my car and the way people beat there own why am I stuck with the shaky wobbly neon?

2001 was a good year though short its common, constant, reoccurring problems.

GORDIE<! PEACE.

It sounds like you guys need a new catalytic converter, that would explain the hesitation and egg smell.
