2005 Pontiac Montana sv6 from North America - Comments

"Nice try, but gas is too expensive and service sucks"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Fuel economy is terrible. average of city hwy is 16.8 mpg.

Rattle in the front end.

Brakes squeal and there is a shudder when pressed hard on the hwy.

Noise from ignition through the dvd player.

Side door hinge hits the body when opening and closing the door.

Tires are wearing out with very low miles and very easy driving.

ac/heater system does not heat/cool very well.

Rear Seat belt did not retract properly.

This was all before 10000 miles.

General comments?

When I first looked at and then bought the Montana SV6, I was very pleased with the price, style and options on the van. Once I started driving it though, the ongoing problems started, the worst being the terrible gas mileage that the car gets.GM, in their infinite wisdom, installed a fuel economy monitor on this van and it is sitting on 16.8 mpg (that's as low as it registers) and does not budge. htis really suck since the advertise about 26mpg combined. the other problems are ongoing annoyances as the dealerships seem unable or unwilling to repair them. the only one the did fix was the seat belt. not a happy camper.

I own a 2006 SV6. The rattle in the front end is probably a sway bar bushing, I just had one replaced under warranty.

I've not experienced the "Ignition Noise" you say comes from your DVD player. I would assume this noise is coming through your head sets and not the radio. You may be picking up RF interference from local towers or other sources.

I am a little annoyed with the less than friendly second row seats. They are difficult to remove and adjust.

My van is an extended model and Heating/Ac is more than adequate when compared to my previous van, a Kia Sedona. The SV6's system functions much better.

I've just past 10k and I really can't say anything bad about my SV6. So far the dealer has been very attentive and I'm very pleased with their performance. Perhaps you should find another dealer.

Good luck and keep us updated.

On a long trip, driver's seat very uncomfortable; headrest doesn't allow stretching; if headrest was able to be removed, seat would be much better and ride would be much more comfortable.

We bought our SV6 in March of 2005. In July of 2005 the passenger sliding door quit working - apparently the motor in the door. The van was in the shop for a WEEK because the techs did not know how to fix it. In January of 2007 - actually New Years Eve - it quit working again and was stuck OPEN!!! there was no way to get it closed OR quit the stupid dinging noise - we had to drive home 3 miles with the door open and it was a cold night. Took it into the local dealer, they had to order a part from Denver. It got here, they fixed it and supposedly the part was defective!!! Tried to order another part and was told the part was on national backorder and didn't know when it would be in!! 2 months later, we hadn't heard from the dealership on the part - Door is totally useless - it is closed, but cannot be opened even manually - the stupid dinging noise starts and the only way to stop it is to disconnect the battery cable!! It is now March and after 3 part number changes the part has arrived. NOW there is a 2 hour video that the service tech has to watch before he can install it!!! If you don't get the cable tightened EXACTLY right, it will burn out the door motor. I am worried about when our warranty/extended warranty runs out and it happens again that I am going to get stuck with the 1500.00 (today's price) that it is going to take to fix it!!! I am ready to tell Pontiac to take it back and give me another one that I don't have problems with - or a least of lifetime of free fixes for as long as we own the van!!!

Other than that, love the van, great for traveling and get decent gas mileage - generally about 22 - 25 MPG - for general commuting purposes.

You, my friend, have a piece of crap. Try a base Odyssey or a 2007+ sienna.

Pay no attention to the Japanese van lover. I've owned my 2006 SV6 for eighteen months and I'm extremely please with it.

There were a few minor warranty issues, but at least the transmission hasn't failed nor has the engine sludged up. Typical of the Odyssey and Sienna.

If you want real value at a fair price, buy a domestic and stay away from the over hyped and over priced Japanese makes. You'll be glad you did.
