"Charcoal canister not good"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

I bought this car new. At aproximately 7000 miles my engine light was on. My dealer replaced "Charcoal Canister". At 12000 miles, while I put gas in my car, it's shutting off the nozzle, although my tank is not full. I took it to dealer, ran diagnostics, said I need a new "Charcoal cabister". I asked the dealer about frequent repalcement of this particular unit, answer was "I DON'T KNOW". I contacted Toyota customer service over telephone & e-mail. On the phone some one recorded my concern, gave me a ref#, & said your dealer will contact you. Service rep from dealer contacted me, said " I DON'T KNOW" If I want I can take my car to same place & get it fixed with the estimate he provided. Never received any response from Toyota, I contacted earlier about Charcoal Canister, via e- mail.

General comments?

I just saw the check-engine light on at about 62300 mile and the dealer replaced my charcoal canister for more than $600. I wonder whether Toyota has any warranty for this thing to last beyond such low mile. Sorry to see that I am not first Sienna owner to have to replace such expensive parts so early.

Well, maybe if you would stop going to the dealer things would be grand? A dealer that charges 600 for that is a repair that would cost under 300 at an independent repair shop.

A trustworthy independent mechanic can save you much $$ in the long run, however, not all independent mechanics are cheaper than dealer mechanics. I have learned the hard way to always call for an estimate after I know the particular repair/parts my vehicles need.
