Rear passenger door does not always unlock 1st time using the remote control.
I bought this one new for my wife (she fell in love with a secondhand one at a local used car dealer). We've only done 2,000 miles in 6 months and our feelings are positive. I tested an older 2.0 litre auto model, but that was a SLUG. With a 2.4L auto performance is much better (almost brisk)
Outstanding styling combined with a good driving position and very comfortable seats make this a usable, practical and fun car to own.
There's only two of us, and we use my other (much bigger) car when transporting the grandchildren as the PT is not overly spacious, but it suits us well - I have managed to get some quite bulky items in the trunk with the rear seats folded, but cavernous it is not.
Normally used for local trips (that's all my wife does) I would baulk at using it for anything more than 40 miles (80 miles round trip) because of its appalling fuel consumption of about 25mpg (UK gallons) - worse again when the air-con is in use (22mpg).
Other negatives are a turning circle almost the same as an oil tanker, brakes that MIGHT stop you when needed (leave more time for this, believe me) a handbrake that does not work well on hills.
For gentle local trips its fine.. try to "push on" on twisty English roads or drive over 85 / 90 on a motorway and you need nerves of steel or seat liners! In a straight line, its great - OK for you Americans, then :-)).
Don't let the negatives overwhelm you, this is an OK car with great looks, just don't expect a hot rod with great handling... and don't forget to haggle the dealer, I got £3k (almost $6k US) off of mine.
I, like you love the PT, so much so I went and traded my '98 Voyager in. Went to the local Dealer and one week later drove of in my pride and joy. A 2L Auto... anyway that was March '06 it is now June '06...OK had a couple of minor electric gremlins with the indicator stalk... So the next week I was given a 2006 PT with the 2.4L Auto while my car was being repaired... WOW what a DIFFERENCE.. and what a huge mistake I had made of NOT test driving my 2L Auto first.. As for it being June '06..I have traded in my 2L and for the next couple of years I am going to stick with my new Grand Voyager... but I will be driving sometime soon in a BRAND NEW 2.4L believe me... I cannot afford to purchase a new model P. T, so it was easier just to buy my Voyager.. but let me tell you the P. T is a great car to drive, it is so practical and I fitted my 4 kids in plus gear with NO problems... the only problems I had were the 2L Auto NO POWER.
"gas-guzzler"?
Come on. But I do congratulate you on your purchase of an American vehicle, I myself like the old style Durangos, but the PT is OK too.
"Gas Guzzler"
Bear in mind that the majority of cars on roads in the UK and Europe have a smaller engine size (around the 1.5L mark as a stab at an average) and they'll return upwards of 35mpg ;)

The 2.4L gets about 30mpg highway. hello gas guzzler???
<<The 2.4L gets about 30mpg highway. hello gas guzzler???>.
Oh, you mean EPA? What's the real world like, 22?
Gas/Petrol drinkers... we have just sold our second PT Cruiser. First one was 2.0 Litre petrol and pretty much drank the stuff, but had no real get up and go. And the one we have just sold for a bigger car (third baby due soon) was the Diesel. The CRD with the uprated 145ps Engine, did have plenty of OOPMH... but the M.P.G was poor really. Would have expected at least 35 to the Gallon, but 'computer' only ever hoovered around 25-28 that's it.
Not very good at all, especially in Diesel form!!
NB: The diesel sound like a tank...horrid.
One last word my car a Toyota Yaris (Petrol) 50.4 M.P.G no not a print error.
