"The car is confusing."

What things have gone wrong with the car?

I'm confused, I think its transmission problems.

General comments?

I stopped at a stop light and pushed on the gas pedal my car wouldnt go. I towed it home and 1 hour later i started it and it went into gear and drove. I was told it needs a new transmission. I was also told that a filter and fluid change would fix the problem. any suggestions????????

In any car, the transmission fluid and filter should be changed every 10k miles. Seeing that you've owned the car for about 25k miles, have you had the transmission fuild and filter changed at all yet to this point? If not, that might be your problem, especially if the previous owner never did it as well. However, not changing the fluid and filter can drastically shorten the lifespan of a transmission also. So if it's never been done, it's possible the transmission is worn out. Start with the cheap fix. Get the transmission fluid and filter changed. See if that cures the problem. If not, I would recommend calling your local Ford dealer to see if there are any open recalls or service bulletins for your car on transmission issues. If so, it should be free to get it fixed. If not, you might be looking at a transmission rebuild...$$$.

To the poster above: I don't think 25,000 miles on trans oil is going to wreck your transmission. I have a Pontiac Sunbird, and the GM manual says to change it after 100,000 miles. There isn't any combustion going on in the trans, so that means less junk in your oil (as compared to the engine's oil).

To the owner: If you think it is the trans oil for some reason, pull out the dipstick to the trans, and see if the oil is red. If it isn't smell it and see if it is burnt. Also, get some off the dipstick and rub it between your fingers. See if it feels gritty, or if there is metal in it.
