Nothing at all, except that it had a small steering vibration which was solved by balancing the wheels.
Just one word describes this car: FABULOUS. Yes, the car is really fabulous, and has corrected all the wrong notions I had regarding Ford vehicles! Got the car on April 30th and I have done 7000 kms in just over a month. I'm one person who does a lot of driving in a day, and this car is just the one made for me.
Its got a 2L gasoline power unit under the hood which does its job quite well. Acceleration may not be really good compared to other cars with an engine of the same power, but its good enough considering the size and weight of the car... so don't feel bad if a 1.8 accelerates faster than you. It has a 4-speed automatic transmission which performs pretty well in all conditions. The interior is extra spacious and the seats are very comfortable. ABS with EBD is standard for all models of Mondeo and perform well.
The Mondeo Trend comes with alloy wheels, rear armrest, cruise control, front and rear fog lamps and electronic climate control (which make it sit a little higher than the basic model, the Mondeo Ambiente). All Models come with a remote control for the audio system, which comprise a single changer CD player and radio with RDS sattelite. The unit cannot play MP3's, but thats OK since there is an auxillary input which allows you 2 connect your MP3 player so the sound comes through the car's speakers. And yes, talking about the speakers; the stock speakers rock!!
There is ample legroom for both front and rear passengers. The boot is quite spacious, too. Handling is excellent and the car is absolutely stable even at high speeds... the car can easily accelerate to 180 kph; and when pushed, can touch 205 kph. There is almost no road or wind noise until 160 kph...after that, both tyre and wind noise can be heard. There is absolutely no vibration or unstability at such speeds.
Other options include front driver and passenger airbags and side airbags; headlight leveller, anti-theft system with immobilizer, and rear door/window child locks.
Regarding mileage; the best mileage I've gotten so far is 11.6 kms/litre...and that was during a long drive. Normally, I get between 9~10 kms/litre; ie. a mix of highway and congested city driving.
The maintenance service is carried out every 10000 kms, unlike most other cars where the service should be carried out every 5000 kms. There is no 1000 kms service required for this car. The first service is at 10000 kms. The cost of parts is not as low as its Japanese competitors, but through inquiries I have found that it is not as costly as people believe, so is pretty much affordable.
The cost of the car (here in UAE) is 62000 dhs ($16,825). The basic model retails for 58000 dhs ($15,740).
Hence, we can call it a perfect and affordable family car.
I hope this review was of use!
The review was great,
I was a bit skeptical to go for a Mondeo 06 until I read this review. I have now decided to go for it.
May I speak to you in person so as to clarify any further.
Sure!! you can contact me nytime via email : vivz990@hotmail.com or thru my mobile : 971 50 7466265 :)..
Well..I'm the same person who wrote the above review.. just wanted to add an update!!..my car is now 9 months old and has covered exactly 41,439 kms!!!...the car has given absolutely no problems, fuel efficiency is excellent and the spare parts are cheaper than most of its Japanese rivals including HONDA, Nissan and Mitsubishi (I'm talking about this from experience)..spare parts, incl the brakes are really very long lasting and the car still runs absolutely smoothly!!..trust me guys, its a really great buy :)..
I read the above comments and it really seems to be a reliable car, but I'm actually concerned with Ford Mondeo Ghia1997, can anybody tell me more about this car!
I purchased Mondeo last year. There has been absolutely no problems. No doubt it's a great car. Now I am leaving out of the country and to my horrors, I am unable to find a buyer. Nobody wants to take it and everybody says that though they like the car very much, but since it does not have a resale value, they will not touch it. Even ford says that they just have trade in facility and so are helpless. This makes me feel too betrayed by ford.
Well I am also in UAE. I am very much interested in getting your car if I find it fit. Well you can always send me your car pics along with your demand I mean your last price on my Hotmail address: qghauri@hotmail.com
Will be waiting for your call.
Well, I have a lot of experiences with mondeo since I'm using ghia 2006 until now, actually I'm not comfortable with the car I faced a problems and bad features never faced before with any mid cars or 4 cylinder engine i used before, some time I tell my self if I had bought a used car it would be much better, here what I found in this car:
1- hard suspension feeling especially when you pass a pumps in the street or you are driving in not clear road.
2- there is no enough insulation in the roof to protect you form summer sun.
3- bad smell come form dashboard in the summer time even if you parked in the shadow.
4- strong wind noise sound when you reach 120 km/hr.
5- weak speakers and weak radio reception.
6- leakage air engine mechanical problem (this problem make me went to the agency many times).
7- some times the engine take time to start without clear reason.
8- very thin body paint and no protection.
So if you ever want to buy mondeo take a long test drive and keep in you mind what I mention above befor you get sorry.
Thanks,
softyplace@hotmail.com.
I bought a used 2005 mondeo ST220 driven 50000kms and it turns out it have a gear problem so I took it to the dealer in UAE and asked them to fix it then I found out that the car had same problems before, so I asked them to change the gear, but they refused and said that the manual gear can be fixed (apparently they can't since it happened twice).
I hope Ford reads this and changes their policy. If its broken change it.
Heyy guyzz..I'm the guy who wrote the above review some months back!!..to let all of you knw, I still drive the car.. it will b completing 2 years tis month end.. it has covered 80,000 kms in under 2 years time!..only prob that I ever faced so far is a dead battery and a defective alternator both of which were replaced under warranty by al tayer wid no hassles.. never had any probs wid al tayer w/shop too, so far (the sheikh road one!)..i had an accident in btw, whch was definitely not a minor one, but was close to major.. my car was repaired wid no delay and widin 25 days time (considerin the damage was too bad 'n' compared to other major dealers, tat time-frame is good enuf)...and talking abt comparison, I'm not talkin from wot I knw frm others, but frm personal experience..
Just one thing guys.. i know a lot many people who talk only crap abt Ford and other similar brands but do not know any crap abt cars..I'm talkin frm experience...I'm not sayin Ford is the best; but just be sure that Toyota, Honda & Nissan are not the best.. reliability of a car is dependant on how well the owner treats it... and the resale value; I'm dead sure there are buyers for the Mondeo.. people who know the car and people who know about cars, will b there to buy a Mondeo.. and if you intend to keep the car for 4 years or above, tell me how much you lose compared to the japanese cars; especially considering the fact tat u've to pay abt 10 - 15K more for a japanese car in the similar trim which will still be having lesser features of wot the Mondeo has! OK I'm sounding like a hardcore Ford fan now :P..Believe me, my favourite cars are the Honda Accord 3.5 v6 and the BMW 5 Series... but those are not practical for me due to higher expenses and maintenance charges (yea, the Accord is costlier to maintain than the Mondeo; check it out urself personally)...
Nywayz, I'm not sayin nythin more since I really don't want nyone to consider me as a Ford representative or sumthin.. hhehe :P..I'm not biased to any brands or agencies..
Anywayz, if anyone of you would like to know anything about any brand or make of cars, do let me know and I shall help you to my best possible!
Vivz990@hotmail.com..tatz my address!
Good day!
I have recently purchased a used Ford Mondeo 2L model 2006. The Car has done only 15000 KM and is in excellent condition. It is still under warranty until April 2009. Have driven it for about 4000 Km. My personal view is that it is one of the best rides I ever had considering the money which I have paid for this car. Mine is a basic model; it is not equipped with alloy wheels and cruise control, but it really drives very well on the road.
I have driven Merc E320 model 2000, BMW 325i and many makes of Japanese cars, but believe me Ford Mondeo is very different from them. The ride is extremely comfortable. The road grip is fantastic. The brakes are just like Mercedes Benz. Air conditioner is very effective in this merciless heat in United Arab Emirates.
The only thing I have observed is that with an engine of 2L the car is not that very fast as compared to its rivals in the market. It is not aggressive like a BMW but overall still it covers up in the long run.
Hope this review will be of use for the one who is willing to buy this make and model. I fully recommend it to the guys whom care for themselves and their families, as I found this car to be quite strong in terms of safety.
