Blower Motor didn't work at 194,000 Kms.
2 Ball Joints around the same time.
Two rod ends at 195,000.
Calipers / Rotors at 195,000.
Two front struts / Two rear Shocks.
Security System (Chipped Key) went at 198,000 (car wouldn't start)
2 Rear wheel Bearings at 198,000.
Front Bearing at 199,000.
Catalytic Converter - 199,000.
I really hope this is the worst car I'll ever own, because I hope it can't get much worse than this.
Everything I just listed went wrong in the span of about 6,000kms.
This car is a total nightmare to drive, everytime I go somewhere something goes wrong.
It's also very expensive for parts, 500 for a bearing, 600 for a blower motor, 1000 per strut (Thankfully I got a replacement set from strutmasters)
I remember trying to fix one problem, and then the car wouldn't start stating "Starting disabled due to theft system, please wait 3 minutes"
I spent the entire day trying to fix this and eventually had to buy a resistor and start messing with wires.
I don't know why people say it gets good feul mileage, I think it's terrible. I'm avg 20mpg... in the city it's about the same as a hummer!
My oldsmobile 88 was 10 times the car this thing is... it had over 320,000 kms when I got this car and it still runs.
Every time I move it I think to myself... theres a new "knock"... theres a new grinding sound...
Yuck!
Why do people keep saying how horrible their car is because problems develop with high mileage? Components don't last forever and after a lot of use need replacement. These problems the owner is complaining about are cropping up in km's above 190,000. If it was 75000 KM that's one thing, but around 200,000, that just seems like normal wear and tear on a sophisticated car.
I saw that comment coming a mile away while making my review, the answer for me is... there are cars out there that don't fall apart once they hit 200,000kms or 130,000 Miles. Like I said, my Oldsmobile had over 320,000 and I could drive it for a year before having to replace something. This car was over 10 years newer and is literally falling apart. My fathers 1981 Cadillac still has the origional struts and most parts... and still runs great, this thing I have is a cheap pile of costly junk.
Any car is going to fall apart if it is not maintained properly no matter what the mileage is, your review is proof of this. You bought a caddy that was obviously not well looked after by the previous owner which is why it fell apart at 200,000kms on the other hand you took care of your Oldsmobile and it lasted well over 300,000kms.
The answer to high mileage cars is simple. DON'T buy American cars. Spend your money wisely and buy Japanese or German.
Wrong. Buying used German or Japanese cars is silly, as they are very expensive. Additionally maintenance and parts are more expensive as well.
Just do some research and buy cheap, but bullet-proof American cars. That's what this board is most useful for. Things like late-eighties/early nineties Buicks, Oldsmobiles, and Pontiacs, models like Lesabres, Delta 88s, Centuries, Cieras, are all more reliable than any German car, and comparable to Japanese, while being much cheaper to buy.
Car is a long, piece of crap! I bought one wholesale for $1500 last year. I expected to fix a few things here and there, but so far its been about $5,000 in repairs! Kept up regular maintenance, repairs, oil changes, etc. but the damn thing has a penchant for breaking. Bad news for a poor college kid's budget. And the fuel economy is an absolute travesty; runs on Premium and Can't get any more than 18mpg on the Highway! I'm getting a Honda this week. Luckily, I got quotes of about $600-1,000 for a trade-in on this POS. Suckers!
A few weeks ago, my 10 y/o niece said that my car "looks like a boat" and I told her that sooner or later, one way or another, it WOULD end up in a lake or river.
In short... stay away from Rattillacs!
I would like to answer your comments, but KIJIJI won't let me tell it like it is. If you maintain your car it will last you! Enough said. Buy yourself a cheap throw-away car and be done with it!
