2005 Chevrolet Aveo LS from North America - Comments

"Good looking, but too many problems!!!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

We bought this car brand new after looking at a Scion xA. Then we test drove the Aveo and loved it! Looks, styling, driving, comfort, versatility were excellent! The car has been in the shop no less than 6 times for various problems, one of which is NOT STARTING after it sits idle for a couple of days. It's obviously a fuel problem, but the service department hasn't been able to duplicate the problem. LEMON??? Maybe!!! Still LIKE the car, but I'm considering trading it at a loss on a Honda FIT Sport! Regardless of how well some folks cars have done, I'm beginning to think that's the exception to the rule!! Maybe I'll get out before the problem gets worse!!!

General comments?

I bought a 2005, used Chevy Aveo this past July and have had it in the shop three times for the same problem. The key won't come out of the ignition and the shift is stuck in park. Like you, I love the car; looks, handling, comfort, gas mileage, etc. It's in the shop now and they are replacing the whole shift system. We'll see what happens.

Have had the same problem with the shifter in my car as well as my wifes both have around 80000 km, just wondering if this is a common problem with aveos?

No offense, but the Aveo does NOT compare favorably to the xA.

Seems that nobody heard anything about the recent Toyota recalls including a recall of 775000 Tundras...the worldwide recall of nearly one million Prius hybrids. Also a 368,000 SUV recall including Lexus and Highlanders.

The message is that every car model have a weak point, and Aveos have a lot of goodness for little money. I have two, a 2005 SVM and a 2006 LS and there are the most trouble free cars I ever had. And they have a nicer ride and feel bigger inside that the xA (specially the 06/07's). The xA feels and ride like the small car it is.

Hi everybody.

See, I am considering buying a Chevy Aveo LS, and I go all over the net looking for information.

Thanks a lot for all of your comments, they are really helpful.

I am just wondering is the car worth the money or should I just add a little more and get a Honda or Toyota?

Any comments are welcome.

Again, thank you very much.

I bought my 2005 Aveo LS hatchback about a month and a half ago. It was used with only 12500 miles on it. I have put about 500 miles on it and have had to take it in 2 times already. The first time was for a grinding noise that turned out to be a missing shift plug...fixed..the second time I went to start my car and the engine just wouldn't turn over. There was some sputtering and after 3 attempts it started and idled quite roughly. This continued to happen off and on for the next few days, but when I brought it into the dealer it of course started up perfectly and they couldn't find anything wrong with it. I drove about 20 miles parked for 30 min. and the same problem happened again when I went to start it! If this is a serious problem with the starter or fuel pump I need to get it fixed before the warranty is up. Anyone else experience this?

I have had an Aveo since September of 05... I have driven over 31,000 and have had no problems. It's been a fantastic car!

I own a 2005 Chevy Aveo LS 4-door with automatic transmission. Bought it used at 20,000 miles, now have over 40,000 on it. Only major complaint is the car is unstable at freeway speeds (75 to 85 mph) especially if there are cross winds or slight grooves in the roadway. Slow to 70 mph or less and no problems. At speeds of 75 or higher, you had better have both hands on the wheel, because it feels like it can get away from you! I have put new tires on the car, balanced them, had a front end alignment, with no help for the instability. I have owned other small cars and never felt anything as unstable as this. This seems like a serious safety issue to me.
