It has very slow acceleration.
Bad radio and the cassette player is very bad.
The seats are bad and uncomfortable.
It consumes very high quantities of fuel.
The power steering is bad too.
It is cheap car with a good engine.
Your crown sounds like the worst crown ever, sounds like whoever you bought it from, you got knocked, taken for an idiot. toyota crown cars are the complete opposite of what you said, when you bought the car, was you blind perhaps?
My experience with this car is completely opposite to what you described. This car is very reliable in terms of not needing frequent service. From the inside, it is designed to be a luxury car. It really is, though it doesn't come with leather seats. The way the seats are positioned relative to the whole frame of the car gives you complete view of the road ahead, and also for the rear scene via through the mirror, (this might be the only thing that is lacking in my current 1998 BMW 528i). The manual transmission of this car is the greatest of all manuals. The A/C is ice cold; something highly admired in the hell summer of Baghdad. I bought my Super Saloon from a single lady, and it was very clean, had 148000 kilometers on it. It was stolen from me after the war. Though I live now in the USA and drive a 1998 BMW, but I still miss my Super Saloon. Iraqis love this car, and they don't do for nothing.
Cons: acceleration is slow, but very acceptable, especially for a Japanese 1982 car. A serious disadvantage in this car is that it is not safe to drive at speeds over 100km/hr. Once you exceed this limit, the car starts to float; it does not grasp the ground. However, this advantage was still existing up to the 1990 model. I am not sure if it was fixed after that.
My car is 1982 & it's a great car; comfortable, smooth, stable, & I have a safe feeling when I drive my car.

In my opinion, Crown in general and Super Saloon in specific, is the most wonderful car I've ever seen.Hence, I am still looking for one here in Dubai. As an Iraqi,I beleive that this car has long -standing relationship with Iraq . Despite the fact that I've got 2 Toyota Camry, my heart starts beating once I see one on the road!Imagine!and the strange thing is that the driver is likely to be an Iraqi.
My Opinion is that crown super saloon is the most wonderful car ever my we had it in the family since 1982 till the early 2007, the kilometer was more than 500,000 Km when we sold it we had never experienced any problem with it,
I have done a modification with it to increase its acceleration by changing the mechanical fan with an electrical one and that was incredible the acceleration became very good.
From my experience with this car, we have had it in the family since 1983 and to this day, it is one of the strongest, most comfortable and well designed vehicles.
For consumers in very hot countries, where temperatures are above 50 degrees Celsius, it will work very effectively with the A/C on and accomodating 4 other passengers.
There is only one disadvantage: the suspension needs a stronger dampening system to cope with the heavy weight.
But overall it is a perfect car, and we have driven nearly 2.5 million km until this day, and we have only done one overhaul before.

Toyota Crown and specially both super and royal saloon is the most respected car in Iraq, even after japan stoped making the LHD (left hand drive) version of this car, still some Iraq import crown from japan and converted from RHD to LHD in Iraq, they became expert with conversion of this car.. I love it and I'm sure if toyota think of opening a branch in Baghdad then the first choice for iraqies will be Toyota Crown.. we love all it's classes (std, delux, super saloon, royal saloon, athlete, majesta).. but Iraqis special class is SUPER SALOON.
