I have not had a problem with this car since I bought it.
This car is a joy to drive, reasonable performance and ride - the rails handling make it so.
There is a reason many people wait 1 or 2 model years to buy a new model, so that the manufacturers can work out the glitches, and they always have so many suckers to experiment on. Few have been the new models to come out without glitches in the past 15 years. However I will not be keeping this car forever, because it is a very snug fit for me with the sunroof, yet I will regret the day I have to give it up.
I've owned 1st model year Honda products that had impecable reliability and build quality. Also, I've never purchased a new a car that required as many recalls as the RX-8. Mazda has no excuse for releasing under-engineered cars.
A consumer ratings magazine has stated that reliablilty has improved to "average". While this is certainly plausable, I'm not willing to trust in a company has not demonstrated a a strong willingness to stand behind their product.
