Emission light came on at 79,875 miles.
I love this vehicle because it has been reliable so far.
At almost 80K miles, I have only replaced normal wear and tear items such as tires.
Fords are notorious for having very sensitive "check engine" lights and I doubt there is any real problem. Usually just changing oil and maybe running a tank of premium thru it (if you can get a loan to finance a tank at current prices!!) will cause the light to go out. If it doesn't it could be the vent hole in your gas cap. This also causes the light to come on, and all it takes is a new gas cap to fix it. We've owned lots of Fords, including one '75 Granada that went 325,000+ miles with only routine maintenance. They build very good cars. I'm glad you've had good luck with yours. It's most likely good for another 200,000 miles.
And what auto magazine are you from to make that claim? I think millions of Americans would take a Toyota or Honda any day.
And then again, millions of Americans wouldn't take a Toyota or Honda any day. So what's your point? The reviewer has had nearly 80,000 miles of trouble free driving in a five-year period, which sounds pretty good to me. I don't see a lot of room for criticism of his experience, or inducement to abandon the Ford and "take a Toyota or Honda any day."
I would take a Ford over Honda or Toyota everyday to put it bluntly.
We bought our escape new in 2001 and now have 53000 miles on it. This has been a very good vehicle for us. The only maintenance expenses have been for new tires and oil changes. We are now lookig to trade it in for something a little bigger. With a growing family we need more interior room, but would happily buy another Ford vehicle.
Well I'd pick Honda or Toyota over Ford... I think you were lucky enough that your Ford stayed together... but if you try to read more consumer reports... Quality is poor. By the way I am driving a 2001 Ford Escape right now, which is falling apart on me... and like many Escape owners, we all say it's about transmission troubles... on top of that it had 10 recalls... so FORD may stand for FIX OR REPAIR DAILY.
My name is Martin and I own a 2001 Ford Escape XLT 4x4 which I purchased brand new in Jan 2001. I must say that this vehicle has given me 6 1/2 years of worry free driving. I have had only one recall (the ABS brake connector which was fine, checked and no rust). I just recently had to replace the brakes at 106,000kms, but that is the only major repair I had to do except for regular maintenance such as oil and filter change and CHANGING YOUR TRANSMISSION FLUID REGULARLY!!! I would strongly recommend this SUV, its just the right size, room for at least 4 adults, good fuel economy (although the fuel tank is a little small, so refuel often) and in snow country (Canada), the awd comes in handy. Get the V6 model, the 4 cylinder tends to be underpowered. I plan to keep this vehicle for a long time, had it rust proofed year after year. Have a great day.
I just bought a 2001 Escape yesterday and I really like it so far, but I am now having to take out one of the fusible links so that the lights will turn off. I tried everything, I disconnected the battery for a while to try and reset it, but still nothing. If you might have any idea what I can do to fix this problem, I would be very happy.
