Transmission had to be replaced.
Presently making a loud clicking sound around dash board.
Add another failed Lexus Transmission to your list. Four days after I bought my used 2001 Lexus RX300 the transmission went out at 98K miles. I would never have imagined a quality vehicle like this to have that happen this soon. We paid around 3500.00 to completely rebuilt the transmission and in the words of the mechanic "it was a total mess" the planetary gears and all had to be replaced. I have read countless stories of the same thing happening with Lexus. Such a disappointment for a Lexus. I would never buy another one.
Wow, I have had the same problem. In April of this year, I noticed that my car was slipping (gears) and I had it repaired at Mr. Transmission; what a nightmare! They have attempted to repair it again. Yesterday the Check Engine Light, VSC light and the Trac light came on and I notice that the RPM is very high; I am so concerned. I hate to have to buy another car, but I am thinking of getting rid of this one.
Have 1999 RX300. 125000 miles on it, just bought it. No problems in the first 2 thousand miles.
Runs strong overall, except I hear 2 new noises; one is coming from/around CD changer, like a CD is changing even though the CD player is off.
Second noise is in front driver side; a knocking noise. I believe strut mount is probably gone/going.
Third problem when the switch for the windows is unlocked, the rear right window rolls down, and then you literally have to park the car in Drive shift and then it will roll up, otherwise it wouldn't. Anyone out there with same problem or I'm the lucky one...??
Not to mention engine check light came on and after resetting the battery wire, it went away.
Nice vehicle, except it seems very costly to maintain.
I'm glad you mentioned the noise coming from the CD changer. I just bought a 2001 RX300 and concerned about that sound. I didn't want to make a big deal out of nothing... I'm going to figure out what it is. Thanks
