All in a car 16 months old!
Very poor build quality.
I forgot to mention the leaking petrol tank, that let fumes into the passnger compartment. The seal on the tank sender unit was broken.
For some reason I gave the Saab 9/10 for ruuning costs. It should actually be 2/10 at best. 23mpg and routine servicing costing £470 for the first 18000 miles see to that. At that point, my 05 Subaru Impreza STi UK PPP had cost £167...
The car's now been sold for a Honda Accord Tourer 2.2iCTDi. The Saab lost £16500 in 15 months and the supplying dealer refused to make a bid on it. Shocking!
Sounds like you got a very one off car. A "Friday afternoon" car.
Unfortunately, most Saabs seem to be built on Friday afternoons, if the comments on this site are anything to go by.

Most of the problems with Saab cars seem to be since GM bought them out.
I own a 2003 Saab 9-3 Convertible.
My experience has been extremely positive.
The 9-3 has plenty of power, is very comfortable, handles well, and gets excellent mileage (up to 30mpg highway - 20's around town).
It has been a very reliable vehicle, and I couldn't be more pleased with this fine vehicle.
