We have many fords with the 6.0l in the fleet where I work, they are a major pain to work on. your loss of power problems may be to do with the silicone hose on the pressurized intake side of the turbocharger. the engine passes a little oil into the intake and it gets in between the hose and the turbo causing the hose to slip off the turbo under the clamp causing a complete loss of boost (low power). we have seen this frequently and originally we would clean the hose with brake clean solvent and stick it back on, but this didn't work. the elbow hose used to be $89 canadian which is ridiculous concidering it is about 3.5" by about 5". now for $200+ they stapled the clamp to the hose. not good!! I like fords, but if I was to buy a fseries with a diesel I would get an older one with the 7.3l powerstroke, or even the normaly aspirated 7.3l, they are bulletproof and don't have a stupid fan shroud and $100+ fuel filters which makes basic maintinence a pain. that's my 2 cents.

We bought a 2008 F 350 6.4 L diesel in July 2007 specifically to pull our 35 foot fifth wheel. Generall we have been very happy with the unit, but we have a noise problem as described below. perhaps someone can help. The dealer and ford have not provided useful information to date.

When pulling the trailer up hills or on moderate to hard acceleration, ( 30 psi plus bosst) we get a whistling noise coming from the engine compartmnet. there is no loss of power or change in temperatures. One tech has suggested cavitation from the twin in series turbos.

Of course the dealer wants to test this condition, but It is really inconvenient to hitch up and go to the dealer when they are open.

Anyone have any suggestions?
