The blinkers and brake lights freaked out when the headlights are on, fixed that problem.
Headliner is down and being fixed.
Drivers seat is ripped, being origional it doesn't suprize or concern me and so is the back jump seat.
Poewr windows are VERY stick and cause the driver side window motor to burn out very quickly.
Rear passenger door would not unlock when the button was pushed so we had to dig into the door and spray WD-40 on the locking mechanisms.
Drivers side door lock doesn't work so it's a pain in the ass to lean all the way over and use the other door lock button.
Exuast is rusted through so the DMV would not test it for emissions when I had to take it in and have it licensed.
Just the other day the windshield wipers stoped working...
Well other than the minor here-and-there problems, WE LOVE THIS THING!!! for being as old as it is and how well maintained it was, I can really say that it is the best condition one in town. the paint is still perfect, and the interior is nearly faultless, besides the 3 minors. but if you look at it, you don't see many of these tanks in as good of condition as this one. the transmission and engine are original and are still silky smooth, with enough torque to throw you forward when you let off the gas, even down hill. odly enough, the gas mileage is not very different than our old 99 dakota 3.9L v6, because the dakota ways nearly 5,000 lbs and is way under-powered so the tiny engine has to strain much more to move it. I put a trip computer from a 92 grand caravan in it and hooked it all up and it said the average gas mileage was 16mpg!!! out dakotya was only 17.4mpg! now that aint bad. and the power is jsut wonderful, easily passing people on the freeway doing 80, without a show. and this thing is a monster off road, very precise and very easy to drive. a little sqeaky and rattly, but what can you expect from an 18 year old vehicle? my only real problem with it is well, ironically the size. we love it and we hate it. lol my wife is an artist and she is currently painting a mural for a person who lives in condos and it won't fit, as it is 7' 8" tall. but then, we love it for its size also. big, roomy and can haul a bus load of supplies and gear and people with out even breaking a sweat. overall this aint a bad deal for $2,500! and even better yet it, we bought it from my brother in law who happens to be really picky about the conditions of the vehicle, so we know it has been well taken care of! man if only they made these thins now as good as they did back then... now that would be something to shout about!
~a very well satisfied cheverolet suburban owner.
Now, I have a transmission problem. Does a transmission that "whines" in the morning when it's cold mean that the transmission is failing? It also doesn't want to shift out of reverse and into drive, or out of first into second. Once the vehicle warms up, the whine fades away into only whining at the top of every gear, until it is completely warmed up. Once it's warm, the transmission shifts perfectly, and the whine completely ceases. It doesn't slip the slightest bit, but it does however, like to kick back into first when turning left, causing it to surge forward, and depending on how fast I'm accelerating, kick the rear end loose and I fishtail some. This all started about a week ago, when my area got the sudden cold weather.
Transmissions can whine due to low fluids, or low fluid pressures inside the transmission, due to leaks or bad seals or O rings. My suggestion... changes the fluid, and add Lucas Transmission Additive. This may buy you more time with your transmission.
How long would the typical transmission last if the seals are bad? Will this cause failure of the transmission, or just noise? I have yet to notice any slippage, and I can't change my fluids jsut yet because of a tight financial situation I am in... so we'll see.
Today was an interesting day for my and my suburban... some idiot driving a suped up rice burning honda civic thought it would be cool to turn left into the intersection and try and cut through before the traffic got to him... it obviosley didn't work. and what did he come in contact with? a big mean ol' chrome steel bumper attached to the front end of my suburban. hes in the hospital now with serious injuries, one of them being where the bumper smashed his left arm against the door and dash, and you could see the imprint on both sides of the door where his arm and my bumper were. I, have not a scratch on me. My bumper is a little tweaked and scratched, as well as one fog light is shattered. hes quite lucky to be alive actually, seeing the extent of the damage done to his car. I'm glad to be driving something this big and most important, METAL.
The same thing could happen to you if you got hit by an 18 wheeler. Believe me, I'd take a Suburban (or any American car) over a rice burner any day. But, what happened to you and your Suburban today is nothing to boast about. The person in the Civic made a mistake, or maybe even was being stupid, but who hasn't done both of those things at one time or another while they were driving? Let's hope he is OK, and that you are not next.
Hi again, I'm back again. she aint doin too well right now. lately it has been running extremely rough, and I have very little power. if I floor it it shudders. when idling, it runs very choppy and cuts out. when I accelerate it gets choppier and shudders more. sometimes when I start it it runs smooth, but then after a while fades into running like crap. it's a progressive thing, its getting worse and worse. I've had it quit running before. anyone suggest a step I can take and what to start with? problematic vehicle I own.
Need to know if any one has retrofit the V8 to a V6?
