"With the exception of the windows, I had excellent performance until the car reached 90K miles"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The window regulators starting going out around 40k miles. Within 6 mos. All except one rear window was broken.

Around 90K. The transmission started acting up, shifting and thumping very hard, but this has been an intermittent problem, and maybe occur once then not again for several months. If I shut off the engine for a while, it would be fine on next start up. The service engine light would stay on for 2-3 start ups then return to normal.

Around 90K, it started to die on the highway. This seemed to be random and I never knew when it would happen. Usually if I threw it into neutral it would restart without ever slowing down, but on the instances when it did not restart on the first attempt, I would have to coast off the highway and sit for 5-10 minutes. The dealership said they could not diagnose the problem until it gave a service code or I brought it in while it was happening. This problem never gave a key code nor did the service engine light come on when it occurred.

I've had the fuel pump, sock etc., replaced twice. The first time seemed to solve the problem for about 8 months before it happened again. Replacing the pump the second had no effect, the problem still persists today.

As I cannot trust my Buick on the highway I have just today, purchased a new vehicle. I kept my Buick because with the transmission problem, the dying on the highway problem, and only one working window, I felt I could not get a fair trade in price for it.

I've seen many Internet queries about this motor dying problem. I wish they would do a recall to fix it, since it is an extremely dangerous and possibly life threatening issue. Once I was sandwiched between two semi trucks and in heavy traffic I was barely able to get to the pull over lane.

General comments?

We had 3 different window regulators go within less than 6 months of each other on our 2000 LeSabre.. at around 60,000...We fixed the first 2 out of pocket, and Buick was not much help when I decided to contact them on the third broken one. That one is currently duct taped shut, and I'm waiting for the fourth one to go. The pulleys in this unit are made of plastic, and the cable is lightweight for the job required of it.

So many people have had this problem, that it should be a recall issue. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is the only place that initiates recalls, so a complaint must be filed with them. If enough people do, maybe Buick will have to stand behind their dysfunctional product. The worst part of all this is, the NHTSA issued a bulletin concerning this problem in January of 2001- they were aware of the issue.

I am a third generation G. M. (Buick) man, but after buying my wife a 2000 custom LeSabre in 2002, with only 7,500 miles I'm quite leary of their product. The window regulators 3 of 4 are broke. The car has only 35,000 on it and now the transmission is whining and shifting hard. I am very disappointed to find Buick will not recall a widely known problem, currently looking for a new car different make.

I purchased a used 2000 Lesabre three years ago and it has also been a maintenance nightmare.

Two window regulators failed and it is now - at 90,000 - in the shop because of a leaking intake manifold - apparently plastic according to the mechanic. Will cost me well over $1000 to get it repaired.

I have owned Buick's before, but never again. Plan to trade for another Toyota next Spring.

We are the original owner of our 2000 Buick Le Sabre Limited with 108,000 miles.

We have replaced 5 window regulators, as follows: Driver's door 2001 (warranty) and 2007. Left rear 2003. Right front 2007. Right rear 2004. I wrote to Buick; no response. I have talked to the Buick dealer and "it is normal wear and tear." I tried to explain to him that this is my work vehicle and I rarely have passengers.

We would be very interested in initiating a complaint process of some kind. I will take the suggestion of another reviewer and start with NTSB.

My 2000 Le Sabre needed power one window repaired at 90,000 miles, which cost $385.00. Another window broke at 100,000 miles. Buick wanted $580.00 to fix it. I had it wired shut.

At 110,000 miles the battery went dead every day. Buick installed a new battery. It went dead the next day. They found a 2 amp draw on the radio circuit and wanted $850.00 to fix it. I pulled the fuse, changed the radio and the battery still went dead. I pulled the fuse permanently.

My friend has a 2001 Century with 25,000 miles. She has had two windows repaired under warranty. One was a rear window which she never uses.

Buick has a serious window design flaw.

***Cheap do it yourself repair for window regulators.***

I too had a back window regulator go out, which I bolted up permanently as I only use the drivers side window. Then of course the drivers side went out, which is a real pain. So I looked up regulators on ebay, found one for fifty bucks. It's a really easy repair just 5 bolts and an electric snap in connection. Don't forget to to duck tape the window up when you take the regulator out.
