"Handyman's special"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Just about everything went wrong on my car:

I replaced the brakes several times.

The fuel pump.

Gas tank.

Blinker switch in the steering column.

The power windows ripped the glass out of the guide rails.

The headlight switch.

Injectors.

Belts.

The alternator two or three times.

Ignition coil pack.

Plugs and wires twice.

Shocks, and MUCH MUCH more.

It leaked everything - tranny fluid, oil, power steering fluid, and coolant.

General comments?

I gotta give the thing some credit, it had over 100k, things are gonna go wrong, I beat the living hell out of the engine, and it still runs perfect to this day.

The quality of this car was absolutely terrible except for the engine. I wouldn't buy one if you're looking to, unless you've got a junkyard nearby with a couple Corsicas - you'll be there a lot getting parts.

Seems the respondent expected a lot!! He buys a car with 100,000 miles on it and expects it to be like new? I can't see how someone could be mad at Chevrolet after someone else *may* have beat the car to death prior to his acquiring it.

My '88 Corsica now has 250,000 KM (150,000 or so miles) on the clock. Had it for about 8 yrs. and have replaced:

1 water pump

2 fuel pumps (expensive)

2 batteries

Numerous tail, brake and backup light bulbs.

Numerous electrical problems.

Drivers seat.

Ignition switch.

Heater core.

Tires twice.

Brakes 3 times.

Module.

Alternator.

2 strut mounts ($400)

Tranny line fluid leak repair.

Only replaced the spark plugs once at about 140,000 km.

It's still running with a power steering fluid leak (only on hard right turns) and a hard down shifting automatic tranny. (Always had the leak and shifted down hard but it works)

The car was in an accident by it's 1st. owner and I banged up the front right fender (fixed it myself) and hit a Buck Dear with it, I fixed that also. The body is still relatively rust free. I thought that I was going to have to scrap it recently because I didn't think that it would pass the Ontario pollution test for a new license sticker but it did. It's still going and so far the engine hardly uses any oil and it loves the highway! It cruises nicely between 120 to 140 Km/hr. Guess that I (we) will have drive it till it dies.
