Warning light came on - the problem was with a sensor in the front seat. Dealer replaced the entire seat.
The Good:
Length of warranty is excellent.
Car was inexpensive.
Turning radius is pretty good. Seats are comfortable.
Has a center armrest which my old car didn't.
The Bad:
The cruise control is the worst I've ever seen. Speed varies constantly 5 mph too fast or too slow. Very annoying.
Manual shifter has the longest throws - by far - of any vehicle I've ever driven.
The O.K.:
Gas mileage is average. Ride quality is o.k., interior room is o.k., trunk size is decent. Interior noise level is fine.
I'm used to driving older cars of various makes. I test drove a new '07 Optima (same as '06 model) and I can say with confidence that this car rode really well! It was firm, yet absorbed bumps really well. Handled corners very flat. It rode smooth as glass going down the road. I was really impressed actually. Pretty quiet too considering it's price point and the fact it's a Kia. Only gripes were that the seatback adjustment handle is in a stupid spot. Can't use the handle if your seatbelt is on. Also, the 5-speed automatic is one gear too many with the 4cyl. model I test drove. Slightest increase in gas pedal causes it to downshift. Very annoying for highway travel. Glad I insisted on taking it out on the highway! The 4cyl. gives excellent gas mileage and is strong enough for everday driving.
Actually the '07 Optima was redesigned. The '06 is a different car. Same engine choices though.
