Transmission went out.
Check engine light stays on.
Gas hand floats.
Best car on earth.
Runs better with glasspacks and converter off.
Why did they quit making them?
I agree it is a shame they don't make cars like this anymore. I have had a couple of 1984 Delta 88's and both have been great. About the transmission - was yours a 3 speed or a 4 speed automatic? Did you get it replaced and how much did it cost? I think they're quite cheap on these cars, particularly the 3-speed.
Ummmmm, they quit making them because they pulled the plug on Oldsmobile.
They quit making cars of this type - full frame, pushrod V-8, rear wheel drive - years before Oldsmobile was shut down.
Wrong. You can still get new, full-frame rwd cars at your nearest Ford or L-M dealer: Crown Vic/Grand Marquis/Town Car.
No, they don't have a pushrod engine, but does that really matter to people who buy cars like this?
I meant that Oldsmobile, and GM in general, quit making cars of this type years before Olds was shut down. Of course Ford still makes a reasonable facsimile, but I've always preferred GMs. I think people that buy this type of car probably do miss the pushrod V-8s, though, as they are more durable and torquier than for example Ford's 4.6 ohc.
