1995 Renault Laguna V6 from Australia and New Zealand - Comments

"Hey.."

What things have gone wrong with the car?

-Heater core cracked after 2 weeks of purchase. Luckily under warranty still, not an expensive fix as the whole dash needs to be removed in order to remove the assembly.

-Fog light stalk not grounding. Will switch off when you indicate?

General comments?

The Bad:

-Transmission not so good in traffic as it doesn't shift down to 3rd after about 55kph meaning you'll be stuck in high 2nds half the time. Not good for fuel economy. Although very smooth none the less.

-The voice warning activation system can become a little grating. Especially with a WW2 Esq style english voice.

-High bum. Hard to reverse park.

-Front spoiler is extremely low. First time I parked the car I almost ripped off the spoiler on the curb! Luckily the plastic bit of trim underneath is quite flexible and there was no damage.

The Good:

-Sumptuous leather interior. The design of the interior is one of the nicest I've seen.

-Blaupunkt CD stacker works and sounds a treat. I think factory standard in the V6’s.

-Very good handling.

-Very good looks. (Personally I'd say its more elegant and sporty looking than the Laguna 2). Feels great when you get that, 'whats that car?' look, by passers by. Very rare on Aussie roads! = expensive parts though.

-Easy to use controls, trip etc. Climate control works very well.

-Infrared keyless entry is especially good as opposed to your typical radio keys. Means you have to be next to the car to open it compared to accidently unlocking your car 50 meters away. That's the idea at least.

-Fuel economy is OK for a 3 litre V6. Combined economy sits at around 11-12 litres per 100kms.

All in all, I fell in love with this car purely for its character (something the French seem to be good at). Just make sure it's serviced and looked after by a Renault specialist and keep an eye on the auto trannys as they apparently run very hot under pressure. I used to have the Pug bug, but that has been cured with a Renault! doh.

Hi there

i used to have one of those beautiful cars. I loved, but it didn't like me very much :). The tranny gave up at around 200000km, and it costed me A$4000 to rebuild it. Apparently a tranny oil cooler is the cure. they can't take the aussie heat, especially here in WA.

Very nice car though.
