Leaking auto tranny fluid the day I picked it up.
3 times, the check engine light came on, but it was only a poorly seated gas cap.
2 simple recall "repairs" at no charge, in and out at service station.
Trunk lid hydraulic assists went out within months.
Fantastic acceleration, roomy, roomy, roomy, leather trim and moon roof make a nice setup.
Nice Infinity sound system and 6 cd changer from factory!
Easy to change own oil.
Simple, low-cost maintenance sched.
Easy to keep clean and waxed.
MPG between 22 and 25, average.
Quiet.
Sleek.
I've always used Mobil 1 and recommend it for this car.
Regularly change tranny fluid, rotate tires, clean throttle body and use 89 octane, minimum, IMO.
Hello, I own a Chrysler Intrepid ES (is made under this brand here in Canada), 3.2l loaded with all the bells and whistles and like you, I agree that the American Car Manufacturers still know how to make a good car. Mine is a '99 one and last week it just reached the 100k miles bar, proudly, without major problems. I bought the car 4 years ago, with 50k miles on it and since then, just minor problems. I replaced both stabilizer bar links, one lower arm (because of a worn ball joint), last year also I had to replace the AC condenser (it was normal after 6 years of usage, and I did the job without any "expert"), and last week I replaced myself also (part of the regular maintenance) the timing belt. So the result is a car that runs like new. Totally, in repairs, I spent less than 1000k CAD, that I find more than reasonable for such a loaded car. I forgot to specify that during this time I replaced also myself the braking pads (part of the regular maintenance too). My point is that, even if is American, and without design flaws (like the crappy 2.7l), a car can be run as long is receiving a good care. Of course, I use just synthetic oil (Valvoline). There is a nice saying: a car will take care of you in the same manner that you take care of it. And the last one: this is the third Intrepid that I own (the second one, a 2.7 has been stolen, so no reviews about it). My first one, a '95 one with 3.5l engine on it, had convinced me to continue with this brand. It was worth it. I just learned that the so praised japanese cars are no match in terms of money/quality for the Americans. And I own the proofs (my wife owns a Chrysler Neon LX 2000 with NO problems at all)
