"Please help me figure out wht's wrong"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The seems to be having trouble. When I start it in the morning it stalls out then if I hold the gas down a little bit it holds and starts to head up..

Well this morning after getting off the highway it was like the car wasn't getting any gas and would not let go past 20 miles an hour, so I took my food off the peddle gave it gas and then it would go for a min then do the same thing again anyone know what this might be...

Please feel free to email me at lucky4u198026@yahoo.com.

Thanks

Melinda.

General comments?

I'm on my way home an I hope to the Gods I make it OK...

Wish me luck everyone:)

Melinda.

Hello Melinda

I think that it might me something wrong: is there any 2006 Volvo 240?! Anyway, the easiest thing (and the cheapest) is to check the air filter (if any problems with it, gives the symptoms described). It should be clean (normally white) free of any oil or dust. If it is the case, replace it. Second reason that might be are the spark plugs (or the spark plug wires). Hard to believe that you are able to dismantle and put them back in a proper way (no offense), and for this you will have to appeal to a mechanic. Normally the replacing of them shouldn't be more than 150-200 (together with the wires). Third thing that might cause the malfunction it might be the distributor cap (cracked) so for replacing you'll need to go to a mechanic also. Normally all this overhaul shouldn't be expensive, but just a short advice: go to a trusty mechanic (maybe a friend of yours) or ask a MALE friend to go together with you else you might be charged a lot (the tendency is to charge much more women than men because very few have the basic knowledge about mechanics and they become an easy prey)

So good luck.

Hello Melinda.

This happened on my 240 too, and you may have the mechanic to check the fuel pump. 240 has 2 fuel pumps, one is in the tank (in-tank fuel pump) which help to suck the fuel and send it to the main pump. The other pump is the main pump. It is under the car near the rear axle, left side. If the main pump is dead, your car would be impossible to start because there's no fuel deliver to the engine. So, in most cases, the in-tank pump dies first, the car is still able to run, but without in-tank fuel pump, the main pump tend to be overloaded and may die quickly. Is there a whirling noise come from the rear? Or rough acceleration when the tank near empty? If the answer is "yes", then it's very possible your in-tank pump is malfunctioned.

Hello Melinda- I would like to confirm the gentleman above me in saying it may be the fuel pump. I own a 77 242 (same motor and components) and for a few days the car refused to start and when it would it ran terribly and no matter how hard I hit the accelerator it would not move further. However I found that the plug into the pump itself can get gross, so try to clean it out.. and if anything just hit the pump with something. Over time the pumps get krudded up with grime and whatnot and I have found that when stranded it usually works. Good Luck.

It is necessary to tell us what year your Volvo is because there are different versions of the LH Bosch Fuel Injection on the car (eg version 2.0, 2.2, 2.4, 3.0). One big helps I've encountered with my 240s has been the AAA. There are also Volvo specific repair sites that you can query for.
