"Fun car, watch out for the tranny!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Both back windows do not roll down anymore (they only go down 1/3 way anyway, but that's not the point). There are "faulty" clips on the window motor that apparently tend to break. These can't be fixed, and I haven't even found 1 used one yet and the second window went. Replacing the motor (which is the only way to get a new clip) cost $900 per window!

Gas gauge does not work. It seems to work to about 1/2 tank and then works its way back up to full?? Thank goodness the "fuel used" computer still works as I didn't want to spend another $500 on a fuel sensor.

Biggest problem was the blown transmission $6,000 (after wheeling and dealing with GM & the dealership). This is apparently a common problem with this model of transmission with GM, but it was not mentioned anywhere I searched. BEWARE, if you are buying a used one make sure the transmission has already been replaced as I'm told its not "if" it will break, but "when" due to poor metal quality in the factory transmission. Replacements have all new metal parts and are apparently reliable.

General comments?

I had done lots of research on the car, and it was great to start with (nice ride, comfort, economy, look), but the very expensive parts and labour to do any work on this car would make me recommend against buying it unless it had a new tranny and you don't mind fixing many of the "gadgets" as they break.
