The only problem that I have noticed with my Zephyr is that sporadically, there is a noise which sounds like a buzz coming from behind the dashboard. I took it to the dealership and was told that there is a TSB (silent recall) on them for this issue. They said that they needed to order a part for the exhaust that would cure it. The first time I brought it in, they couldn't replicate the noise. Upon my 10k mile maintenance, I had a tech drive with me in the car to hear it. He knew of this noise and acknowledged it. Other than that, this is an extremely beautiful car that gets many, many compliments wherever I go!
I love my car! I am 26 years old and have finally been able to cross over to the luxury brands from driving a Mustang convertible. I test drove many other brands including the Cadillac CTS and was not impressed at all. No other maker has come close to replicating such a beautiful interior. This car is quite reminiscent of a Bentley's interior. A lot of people tell me that it's the same as a Ford Fusion...sorry, they do not compare in even the slightest way.. they are in 2 different classes all together!
I would like to know about the power of the new Zephyr. Apparently it only has a 3.0 Duratech? Considering how large this car is I wonder if it has enough power to adequitely move this car around. And if it is underpowered, is the gas mileage affected?
Well, actually it IS the same as the Ford Fusion in that it is the exact same body and engine/transmission. However, like the Navigator (which is an Expedition) there ARE differences that make it...well, a LINCOLN. Our family drove a Lincoln Town car from 1984 up until 2006. Lincolns are unsurpassed in the details and solid reliability. None of ours EVER saw the inside of a service department for anything, but oil changes. Ford products now far surpass the Japanese and European cars in reliability and overall build quality. I commend you on the good sense to purchase an extremely high quality vehicle. The ride and handling are superb, the power more than adequate and the fuel economy surprisingly good. I hope you have the same wonderful experience with your Lincoln that we had with ours.
102300 miles on an '06? You must love your car if you drive it THAT much...
Don't let the "import cultists" bother you. They're just jealous that they can't afford a real car like yours. Your Zephyr will be running (whether you or someone else owns it then) YEARS after the poorly built imports are rusting in junkyards.
They obviously meant 10k miles as that is mentioned in the review. It is a little premature to say that Ford has exceeded all other makes in quality when they do still have some issues to work on. However, the Lincoln Zephyr/MKZ and Ford Fusion/Mercury Milan are based on the excellent Mazda 6 platform, so these cars will be sound choices overall. The only bit that scares me a little is the Ford-built 6-speed automatic transmission, because it sounds potentially expensive to repair. These cars are not that large, so the 3.0-liter Duratec should be more than adequate, and the upcoming 3.5-liter should cover any gripes from folks who cannot seem to get enough power. I hope to own a new MKZ one day as I think it will be a good car and I really like the striking design, especially in black sans chrome wheels.
Hi all.. thanks for he responses on my review... I did want to clarify that my Zephyr has 10200 miles on it.. not over 100k! This car is still truly amazing... I advise anyone looking in the $30k range for a car to test drive these Lincolns. There are no disappointments whatsoever!
<<Don't let the "import cultists" bother you. They're just jealous that they can't afford a real car like yours. Your Zephyr will be running (whether you or someone else owns it then) YEARS after the poorly built imports are rusting in junkyards.>>
Yeah, I'm really jealous of a $30K car that isn't even made any more (they changed the name which WILL affect resale value since no buyer will know what it is) and will be worth $15K if that next year and about $5k in three years. Add in Ford's amazing reliability (insert sarcasm) and I am soooo green with envy.
That said, Lincoln has released design studies for a car that actually looks interesting. Be nice to think they could build quality into it, but it is an American car so must be built to the lowest possible standards. Add in Ford's penchant for building vehicles that kill their occupants (Bronco II, Pinto, original Mustang, Explorer, Crown Vic) and you've got a winner all around.
Okay people, let us get back to Lincoln and off of this ubiquitous debate over imports vs. domestics. The Zephyr/MKZ seems to be a well-designed vehicle as it is built on the Mazda 6 platform and I have found the Ford Fusion/Mercury Milan to be impressive designs with promising initial quality. I hope Lincoln can develop a following like Cadillac has, because they are starting to come out with some good products that are appealing to younger adults such as myself.
Thanks for adding some "stability control" to the comments, "sir". I was not sure how the comments related to the Lincoln. Pleasant change of pace.
The new smaller Lincoln has a definite appeal to younger drivers who want more than just boring basic transportation. Lincoln quality and reliability is (and long has been) unmatched, though until recently they really offered nothing in the way of a sensibly sized car. Our family has driven Lincolns since we bought our first new one in 1984, and not a one of them has ever had a single problem of any kind. I hope to see more in the way of cars with a wider appeal from Lincoln, as it is deserving of notice in the automotive field.
Not only is the new small Lincoln an incredibly reliable and very high quality car, but the pricing is actually competitive with the far less luxurious and boring Camry and Accord with comparable equipment. I'd opt for the Lincoln in a second over a plain and poorly styled average sedan.
<< Lincoln quality and reliability is (and long has been) unmatched>.
Really? Take a gander at the LS reviews on this site. Or do you have a different definition of "unmatched" than I do?
You cannot compare a Lincoln to a Toyota or a Honda because they are not in the same class. But if you compare the Lincoln to Lexus and Acura it will make the Lincoln look like a pretender. Seriously who would want a lame Zephyr when they can have a Lexus IS or a Acura TSX or TL.
The Zephyr is priced in the same range as Camry or Accord, not Lexus. For 20 grand less I'll take the Lincoln any day. And Lexus is just a pricey Camry, by the way.
Comparing a Lincoln Zephyer to a Camry or Accord...it's a no-brainer! The Zephyer is more stylish, looks 10x better, and offers a lot more for your money! In the luxury segment, I think the new Cadillac DTS or CTS is #1 with the Zephyer being a close second. But if you want performance + luxury, check out a top of the line 300C Hemi!
