1995 Chevrolet Beretta Z26 from North America - Comments

"Cheaply made wannabe sports car that costs too much to support and maintain"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Suspension is bad.

Motor needs to be rebuilt.

Dealer gave me 4 bad tires, University Auto Park.

Water leaks in constantly from a factory defect, but it still smells terrible.

Transmission went out twice.

Coil, spark plugs and wires were all replaced.

Flowmaster exhaust was installed.

New fuel filter tension arm was also replaced.

Is not reliable, but looks damn good.

General comments?

Chevrolet made this car very cheap I think. It looks very nice but performance and overall, it is a hunk of crap.

I too have noticed the leaking in my '95 Z26. However, it has seemed to have gone away lately.

I also have had problems with carbon building up in the EGR valve.

In general, I have found my Z26 extremely reliable. It performs very well.

That's funny, I bought my 95 Z26 with 59k miles on it, it now has 83k, the suspension and handling is awesome.

It looks great, and I never had any water leaking into the car, and no signs or smells of it.

It is very reliable, and still has a lot of power and the transmission is strong, you must have gotten a lemon one.

My roommate has a 95 Z-26 that he just recently spent $2,650 on getting the engine rebuilt because of a blown head gasket and warped heads. This car is a wanna be sports car as he will tell you himself. You can't drive it like a sports car or you will blow it up for sure!!

He attempted to get a new engine put in it, but they told him for a comparable new AC DELCO engine, it would cost $4000 plus labor to replace it. Also has ball joint problems, and recurring brake problems (need to be replaced once a year.) Door handles don't hold up in extreme weather either, they'll break off in your hand! Look this car over good before you buy it. Someone probably already beat it up.

I have two 95 Z26 Berettas and I love them both for reliability and performance. You can buy a bad car of any model. Just because you have had one bad Z26 that probably wasn't taken care of before you doesn't mean that it's the worst car ever built.

I have owned two Beretta Z-26's as well and aside from a few small problems that I caused on my own I have never had aproblem with either of them. I don't drive them nicely either. I drive them like a sports car. and they both held up. the one I own currently has 64K miles on it and is still going strong. no engine rebuild or transmission rebuilds needed.

My dad has had his 95 Z26 for about two years. This car has seen hell and back. First I got my license and beat the crap out of the car then my brother got his license and he also drove the car hard. We never had a major problem at all. In fact, I liked the car so much that I now own a 90 GTZ.

I had a 95' Beretta with the 3.1 V6. It had 114,000 miles on it when I got it. At first it was hard to get used to the placement of the controls. I didn't mind because I'm one those people who like odd things. I had a front end collision with it going about 15. It mashed the crap out of the front end and bent the frame, but aside from that I wasn't hurt. Of course I was wearing my seatbelt. It has a purpose.

Now I own a 95' Z26. It has the same engine and controls. It's acceleration is a little better and the handling was better too. It is definitely a better looking car. I agree that the Beretta was cheaply made, but it will last if you take care of it. Mine has 93,000 miles and the only problem I've had that I didn't cause was a water leak in the firewall. That was a quick fix anybody can take care of. In short, I believe that if you take care of your car, it will take care of you.

I have a 1994 beretta its not a GTU or Z26, just the base model, but it has the V6 and I'm impressed, it takes a lot of beating. it has 127,000 and is still going pretty good. Its essentially the same engine that is in the cavalier as well, however a bit more power. there is a bit of a water leak, but the cav. has that problem too, its actually suprisingly roomy, and dare I say luxurious compare to GMs other cars like it, it seems to almost be a pontiac build, with the chevy symbols. I expect mine to last several thousand more miles, I haven't had a single engine go in 3 chevrolets, corsica, cavalier, now my beretta, the engines were all very solid, only weekness I have seen is brakes and transmission, and those could just be quirky things.

I would definitely suggest the beretta to others, plus it gets almost as good gas mileage highway as those 4 cylinder hondas, specially with overdrive, but with double the power when you want it.

I have a 95' chevy beretta z26. I have 150,000 miles on it and it is running awesome. The only thing wrong with it is it rattles a little bit in a couple of areas. Other than that it is really quick and fast and it sounds pretty good. All I needed was a tune up and a new alternator so far. It also gets excellent gas mileage. I only have to fill the tank up once a week and I'm driving it all the time.

I also had a Chevy Beretta and the tranny went out twice, motor went out once. Those are very expensive repairs, thousands of dollars. Money would have been better spent buying a used toyota or honda. That's what I have now and I'm very happy, they're much more reliable than the chevy beretta.

I have a 94 beretta z26 it has 283,000kms it runs amazing, but I have one problem the transmission slips if you step on the gas to hard. But if you don't step on it hard it drives fine. I've put a new filter and oil in it with also a jug of lucas tranmission fluids that is suppost to renew the tranmission worn bands and it still slips what could be wrong with it.

I own a 95' 3.1 V6. I bought it almost 6 years ago with 110,000K. It has seen California, Maine and everywhere in between. It has also been great for extreme ice conditions and excessive snow of the north, as well as hitting the off road a little. The think I like the fact that if you get it stuck,...it moves easily. hehe. My beretta now has 183,000K and still going strong. I have only put about $1000 on normal maintenance and new struts. I support berettas and its ashame they don't make them anymore, because when mine dies... i would buy another one! BERETTAS ARE A SOON TO BE CLASSIC!
