I had to put a new exhaust gasket on where manifold meets the converter pipe, but that is it.
For as big as the Lumina is, with the 3.4 in it the car is actually pretty fast, the Z34 package gets you the DOHC 3.4, special FE3 suspension and 225/R16 tires. I love driving the car, I only wish I would have gotten the 5 speed.
I would hate to see how these cars would run with a stick, they fly even with an automatic. So far I have beaten a 90 Berreta with a 3.1 V6, a 01 Cavalier Z-24 4 speed, 84 Cutlass, don't know what it had but I crushed it. And finally a 90 Buick LeSabre with a 3.8. My friend says my car can probaly beat a Camaro ranging from 1982-89 with a 6 or a 305. I don't know about beating a 305 but I know the Camaro within that year range had crappy motors, even the 305's were junk. I know that for a fact. Plus his sister in law had a 82 Camaro with a 6 and it ran horrible.
I am not even going to try to race anyway. What I always say to everybody about my Z-34, is it ain't slow and it is not super fast, it is just right.
Well I have a 93 Lumina Z34 and I have beaten many types of cars off the line. And the one I am most proud of is when on spring break in Myrtle Beach at about 4 in the morning I raced my cousin's 92 camaro which had a 305 in it and I blew him off the line and in the long run. After we hit a little over 100 MPH our radar detectors went off so we both smoked the tires hitting the breaks and never got caught.
I have a four door Lumina 3.4L. I also had the exhaust tweeked out for better pick up. Now that thing really flies. I have beaten lots of cars off the line, and in the long run. I love this car, and don't think I'll ever get rid of it till it goes on me, but if you want a nice car with some bells and whistles, and some balls to it, I suggest buying this car.
I own a 92 Lumina Z34 and I raced a 97 Monte Carlo, and beat it after third gear. These cars are good cars, but they are very expensive to take care of. So if you're looking for a car that is good on gas and is cheap to take care of, this is not the one for you. The good thing about these cars is when you hit 28-30 miles an hour, let go of the gas, and then press full throttle and see your friend's heads fly back in their seats...
I purchased my 1992 Z34 in January of 1992, and except for the crummy front discs which burn up every 12-15000 miles (a known problem with this vehicle and others like the GP and Olds), the car has been reliable, reasonably quick, and it is a good handling vehicle. I replaced it with an Acura TL Type S, which is in a different class category. The Chevy is a "meat & potatoes" car, giving you what you need: style, comfort and reliable transportation. It has been passed to my 18 year old son.
I have a 1992 z34. And I really do love my car. Altho, I am now broke. The performance and style of the car is out of this world. But, sad to say, so are the repair costs. Things break on cars, we all know that. But this car is prone to break a lot... and the parts and shop costs are expensive. This really is the perfect car for a mechanic with a little extra time. But for the everyday average Joe, to expensive.
I love my '92 Lumina Z34. It is so comfortable to drive and does pick up some speed. The main complaint I have with this car is the seals on the engine. I have a 3.4L engine with a total of 3 seals. The one that is broken is the one to cost me $1,000 to fix. I have constantly paid and paid to fix this car. It just has way too many engine problems. If you have the money to fix it, then sure, buy it. But I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
I also have a Z-34 92' and I love it to death. Like every one is saying, its very expensive to maintain, especially if you want to use it for racing. But, besides having to maintain, It's truly the fastest V-6 I've ever ridden in or driven BY FAR. I'm always looking for performance tips or just tips to explain how to deal with this car, so E-Mail Luke at "Skinners2@msn.com"
I have a 92 Z34 and it kicks butt. I've beaten several euros like a 95 some-what modified Altima, a 90 V-6 Camaro, a 92 some-what modified Cavalier, a 305 79 Chevy Truck, a 98 Chevy Malibu, 2 or 3 V-6 Mustangs, a V-8 Cougar, Nissan 240SX, a Volkswagen Jetta, 92 Ford Probe GT and my Mom's 2000 Impala. I love this car even though it is all stock. Some parts I need are a performance chip, K&N air filter, and a Flowmaster exhaust system cause stock sucks.
I have a 92' Lumina Z34 with 194,442 miles on the engine, and I have absolutely no problems with it. It isn't too terrible on gas and holds a lot of power for only a 3.4L v6.It is a nice well rounded sports car with plenty of room, and a lot of power behind the wheel. For a car with so many miles on it-It is a surprise for it to have such as much power and as little problems as I've seen---However the engine is expensive to maintain, but otherwise this car rules.
I have a 91' Lumina Z34 and it is fun to drive. I have had no major problems with the car. I have had that car all the way down to the Alabama coastline. It never gave me a problem. In the past few months, I have done the following modifications; Stage 1 port/polish intake and heads, Enlarged throttle body, and a full tune up. Can we say "WOW what difference". Most V8 cars won't race me because of the fact that they know the car and what's been done to it.
I have a '95 Olds Cutlass Supreme SL with 3.4L DOHC 24V. I cut the exhaust off behind the "Y" and had two 14" stainless steel magna flow mufflers with 4" tips out the back. It looks and sounds great. The mufflers were $200.00 each and the custom pipes were another $200.00. I also had the trans rebuilt at the cost of $1,500.00. I figure about 245 bhp. I can be found in Michigan beating the crap out of 5.0 HO's, most any Jap car. It is expensive to maintain, has 150,000 miles on it. Runs strong.
91 Lumina Z-34 I have had no engine problems with this car whatsoever, but some minor work has had to be done. I have had the door handles worked on because they are so fragile, also my alternator just went out, which is a pain in the butt since the Z-34 is the only chevy car that has the alternator underneath the axel (which adds on about 3 hour of labor). She has 140 thousand miles on her and still runs great. I've beat a turbocharged Talon, a few imports, and kept up with a 350 Camero till 50 mph. All in all this car is awesome and I love it to death!
I own a 1991 Lumina Z34 with a 3.4 V-6. The car runs very well when it is not in the repair shop. In the three years that I have owned the car, it has had three starters, one alternator, one flywheel, four trips to the dealer for disc brakes, a rebuilt transmission, a new power steering pump, and many other parts. The engine is too close to the fire-wall so it makes it hard to work on. I am not completely downing the Z34 because it will run every bit of 140 MPH. I do not mistreat this car, but I am out of a lot of money.
I have had my 92 Lumina Z34 for about a year now and it's been a great car to me. The car has 220,000 KM on the motor and the body is in great condition, the body has been oil sprayed it's whole life and it's payed off, not a speck of rust. I live in Canada and the car has seen all types of weather. I have replaced a power steering line, rear struts and the rotors and pads (Goes without saying). Keep lovin the Z34!!!
