"This car is a bulletproof missile"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Nothing, just 2 little rust spots on the bottom of both arches, a common problem.

General comments?

I bought this car because they are getting very rare and I've always wanted one ever since I was a little boy, I paid £1800 for it, which is fair considering the mileage and condition of the car.

The car is in very good nick for its age, and has been well looked after by the previous owner. The car is totally standard and doesn't look like a sporty car at all, the interior is spot on with racing seats in the front and two in the back.

Driving the car feels normal below 5500rpm, but above that the vtec system kicks in and the car just screams, sounds like an F1 car. The look on peoples faces when I pass them just says it all. The car is very fast for a 1.6, it has 160bhp and that's without a turbo, not many cars can keep up.

Overall the car is excellent and hasn't let me down at all. I would highly recommend this car to anyone who is looking for a discreet car with some serious pull.

I've got one of these civics, they are rapid cars, would keep up to a impreza turbo to 60, awesome, eats golf gti's, clio's, calibra's, gsi's and the rest of the boy racer cars on the road for breakfast. these cars are just too quick for a 1.6 NA.

I think going over 5500Rpm on a tiny 1.6 will soon bend and break your Timing Belt.

These cars can rev all the way to 8200rpm, the vtec kicks in at 5500rpm, I've seen examples with over 200,000 miles on the clock that have been thrashed all the time and are still going strong.

Can match a 06 subaru turbo?? That's funny, (0-60 5.4 in a 1.6). The car is stupidly slow under 5500k rpm, meaning that in any real life situation except traffic light grand prix you will get left for dead.

Well that's the thing, in real life there are thousands of traffic lights, more and more of the bloody things every day. You start to make some progress and bang, another set, And that's where cars like the subaru excel too (and round bends of course).

I didn't say the car could do 60 in 5.4 seconds, it will do it in about 7 seconds, its not as fast as a subaru, but for a 1.6 non turbo it is bloody quick. and not all subarus do 60 under 6 seconds.

I have got a Honda civic vti 1993 5 door, has been tuned to 210bhp including apex I vtec controller, also has nos in the car, and I've beaten 4 subs, something about the v tec sound just drives you crazy.

I have a performance air filter in mine, when vtec kicks in it sounds like a ferrari, these cars are mental.

Stuipdly slow??

You probably haven't driven one. These cars are nippy as hell under 4.5k thanks to the low lift cams, common mistake is people put big exhausts on, which takes all the backpressure/ low range torque.

Drive these babys with the revs up...& VTEC is on tap as soon as you need it.. including at high speed EG 80 MPH.

All the way to 8K RPM.

Tell that story to the owners of the following lol.

BMW 330CI

Golf VR6 (2.8)

BMW 328IS

BMW 325 M-TEC.

(PS mines virtually standard)

If you were glued to his rear bumper, then of course he wouldn't be able to pull away. LOL.

As fast as a 325ci...in your dreams!

I always buy an old banger and keep it for a year just to get to work and back (the wife has the decent car!) The next door neighbour said an old boy had a Honda for sale round the corner for £300. So I went to have a look, it was really scruffy dirty and unpolished, but I gave it spin. Started first time and I just doodled around town, then I noticed the rev counter went up to 8500 red line which was different... doing about 30mph in second gear I just kept my foot down, at about 5500 rpm I thought the engine would explode with the noise and acceleration I was shocked that such an old car could go like this. Needless to say I bought the car and have never had so much fun, especially being behind golfs, bmws, subaru etc and by the time they have caught up with me its time to stop at a junction and they look down and I laugh. It is a L reg Honda Civic VTi they look down on and frown.

Yes it is as fast as a 325ci, on paper and on the road

both cars do 60 in about 7 seconds

the 325 is about 190bhp

the civic is about 160bhp and is much lighter

after 60 the 325 would probably pull away.

I'm thinking of getting a Civic VTI soon. I would get a 98 or 99 version as I like that shape the most. I have a 2003 VTR at the moment. It is remapped for torque and pulls very well through out the rev range, but it hasn't got anything after 6000. Would I be rite in assuming that the VTI would pull just aswell in the low range, as the VTR. ie 5000rpm and below. My VTR has 110bhp and 122 lbft torque. And how do they handle? I heard they are supposed to be good, but then again so is the VTR. I just don't want to feel like I've stepped down.

Trust me, it's definitely a step up if you go for the vti, you would never turn back.

Before 5000rpm its very nippy; about 110bhp.

After 5000rpm, it's a beast with 160bhp and revs all the way to 8200rpm.

The engine is totally bullet proof.

120 in 4th gear is all I can say.
