Check Engine Light is On. Needed New Tires. Windshield Replace.
I purchase this car three days ago. I really like the car I purchase new tires and replace the windshield. The check engine light is on, don't know what is wrong? A friend of mine said that it something to do with the emission (since the car runs good), so I take care of that later. The car has 198150 miles on it so I going to have all the fluids change. I always wanted to own a Lexus and now I do. I am 21 years old so any suggestion on how to keep it up and running without spending a fortune would be great!
With 198000 miles, you are gonna be spending money for maintenance and probably some repairs. Budget accordingly. However, since that model is nothing more than a glorified Camry, taking it to a Toyota service center could save you some cash.
Taking it to an independent mechanic will save you a lot. You would save hundreds of dollars if not thousands by going to an independent mechanic should something major go wrong.
198000 miles is a lot of miles to start spending hard earned cash on.

Actually from personal experience, I think there are just two good ways to buy any car (a) Spend more and get one with a warranty (b) Go for a reliable brand with at least 100K miles, most maintenance will be complete and it will come cheap so you can spend a little bit on repairs without worrying about it.
I bought a 1995 Lumina for $1800, spent $2000 on repairs in two years, sold it for $1950. I sold it before it developed an serious troubles. On the other hand, I would not buy the same car with a lower mileage because it probably would have needed the same type of repairs so that would be like paying twice.
