"Not recommended"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

1. Second day, less thabn 60km on car,, brand spanking new.. Horn no longer works, or has never work. I didn't test it the day I took possesion of the vehicle.

2. paint. is it made out of butter or what? Feels like a rain drop, if it hits hard enough, will chip the paint. There seems to be a lot of cases and complains from nissan altima/maxima owners in regards to the paint quality. My father CRV 2 years old doesn't even come close to the amout of chips I develop the first week of ownership. I had to purchase a bra for the car at a cost of 140.00 CAD + touch up paint.. and yes, it looks aweful.

3. The worst part of all, and I am fighting with the dealer and nissan in regards to this.

KNOCKING/Ticking sound coming from engine at 2400km and 1 month of ownership!. Nissan Canada wants me to take a replacement engine in a new BRAND SPANKING NEW, 1 month old vehicle? I have not even made a single payment to this car yet, and Nissan wants to already repalce the engine!. For petes sakes, I am not going to take that as an alternative. I am hoping some other owners out there are having the same issues and will contact me. Hopefully Nissan will read / hear about this.

General comments?

My first vehicle I ever purchased was a 280Z, then went up the ranks to the 1986 300zx. That's how I came to know the nissan brand and expected quality, performace, at a affordable price.

However, with Nissan Canada wanting me to replace the engine with another one... for a new CAR, less than 1 month old.. I am starting to loose faith is the brand.

I am surprised to read about these problems. I always thought that Nissan was the cream of the crop.

Surely that's good? Nissan is recognising that you have a problem and dealing with it! Or use your current engine and wait for it to blow!!!

At least Nissan is sdmitting there is a problem is doing something about it. Most domestic makes and Honda also you either have to sue and get a class action before they do anything about it. And Mr. almighty CRV, Hondas are not perfect and are prone to problems like any car. I own a 2006 Altima 3.5 SE and am very happy with it. Only 7,000 miles, but no problems so far.

Well, I know, I can easily take a new engine.. But to me the car is a LEMON.

If the engine goes at less than 2400 who knows what else is falling apart.

Nissan replaced my 1995 Pathfinder's engine at 1200KM. Over the past 12 years I have not had a single problem with the replacement engine, it runs the same now as it did 12 years ago.

If Nissan is recommending a new engine, Take it.

Interesting about the paint chips. I was also about to purchase a 2006 Demo with 7000KM until upon further inspection I noticed the paint chips. After I showed some concern with the paint quality they offered to paint the whole hood cover. This should not be an option, fix the quality of the paint!

I have a 07 Nissan Altima and have never owned a vehicle that the paint has chipped even 1/4 as bad as this vehicle does.

I own a 2006 Nissan Altima 3.5 SE, White Frost Metallic in color, with just over 10,000 miles.

I haven't noticed much of a problem with paint chipping, but have noticed that the clear coat scratches very easily. There are tiny, fine scratches that you really have to look hard to see, all over the body. Barely noticeable, but at the right angle and light they stick out like a sore thumb.

I purchased the paint protection package when new (Which includes a body undercoating and spray-on wax twice a year). I don't think it was worth it. So beware if you like self-serve and automatic car washes. Wash it by hand if you can.

As far as chipping, I purchased a Le Bra front cover for my car. I noticed a few tiny chips in the front bumper area, but nothing to cry about.

Sad that as much money as we spend on modern cars, we have to buy covers like this just to keep the paint looking nice. I own a 1986 Chevy Caprice with 167,000 and the paint shines like showroom new. It has a old, heavy chromed front bumper, and very little paint exposed at the front, thus no chipping.

As long as we put plastic, flimsy, body-colored grilles and bumpers on our cars, we will continue to have paint problems. This is not specific to Nissan, this includes all new cars.

I can sympathize with the fellow who is fighting with Nissan over a replacement engine... unlike you I have made a payment, only one however, & my brand-spanking new 2007 Altima (just over 3000 miles) now sits at a dealership's service center in Atlanta...2 states away from where I live as the engine seized and left me stranded while I was there on business last week. The dealership as well as Nissan Corp. have been appallingly unprofessional & uncooperative although they've admitted that the engine was defective. My car is inoperable & they simply want to put "another" engine in it... not necessarily even a new engine, but possibly a re-build! I'm seeking legal action!

I am very very unhappy with My Nissan Altima 2.5 2007 1st I get a recall letter, but engine can catch fire if oil is low. Now I just looked on line that some filter can make engine catch fire if any kind of spark gets near it. Today I noticed my two front tires look like they are turning into play-doe they will not hold air they both just go low about 25psi when tire show 35- 40 psi I've put air in it three time. I also feel like the transmission is already slipping I do not race or even drive fast the car is a real Lemon what is funny it was purchased at Nissan of Orange I'm trying to get in contact with Nissan to see what they want to do. I don't want to deal with Nissan or Orange customer service is really really bad and I hope that they didn't use my credit info to help illegals purchase cars. they were just raided last month by the FBI. I haven't heard any thing yet.

Although I have been aware of the rash of problems (many serious) with several Nissan lines, I was very impressed with the new Altima coupe. However, after test driving a beautiful red one (the styling is gorgeous) and trying to negotiate a deal on one, I found the dealer unwilling to negotiate. They wanted $24,000 for a basic coupe with a 5-speed and cloth interior. I drove to a Ford dealership and drove out with a brand new Mustang Pony addition with 50 more horsepower, an automatic, leather interior, upgraded sound system and every bell and whistle they come with for only $20,340. At those prices I can't see Nissan selling many of the Altima coupes. They are hardly price competitive, and are underpowered with the base engines.

I have a brand spanking new 2007 Nissan Altima 2.5S and have never had a problem with it at 7,000 miles. The paint is fine... the only problem I had with it was the ride; in the beginning it was rough, and it felt like the car kept jolting back and forth... I can't complain because this car has been fine for me so far...

I just got my car about 3 weeks ago and I also am getting a very weird ticking/knocking noise from my engine. I only have about 500 miles on it. I really hope I don't have to get a replacement engine. It seemed to start doing that after my Nissan dealership installed the automatic starter. I'm taking it in for service this Tuesday so I will post and let everyone know what they say. Otherwise I love the car so far.

I took my car in today for the ticking/knocking noise. It turned out to be a loose piece within my exhaust system so now the noise is gone and the car is better than ever.

I have a 2007 Altima and when I stop at a light or when my car is parked I hear a knocking noise come from under my car. Do you think it is the exhaust or could it be something else?
